hi all.updated my galaxy to firmware 2.2 using kies and had same problem trying to open messaging,got phone replaced by orange today as it was only 3 months old,the new phone was running 2.1 so i updated again to 2.2 and exactly the same problem,spoke to a tech at orange and he got me to do a master reset which didn't work so he got me to activate data network in the mobile network settings and this worked.
i asked him why i didn't need this activated when i was running 2.1 and he said i would have had problems in the future!!
is this going to drain my battery quicker with this on??

I'm also having the same problem on my orange galaxy s since froyo 2.2 update, I have noticed tho that if my wifi icon is on from the drop down notification area, and that data icon is off then i dont get the annoying data message before i open my messages. Even if I'm not connected to a wifi signal, as long as the wifi icon is on the annoying message does not appear and I can access my message.
Also the annoying message does NOT appear when data and wifi is OFF and I receive a text then enter my message via the drop down notification area, I then can reply to the text and send without having to switch on my data or wifi icons. This proves that you do not need your data on to send text's, so please ORANGE fix this BUG!!!!

I am having the same problem i am also on orange but i didnt update to froyo i was one of the unlucky few that got one of the first orange galaxy s phones that were locked down to eclair so i demanded and got a new phone and it came with froyo pre-installed my partner has the same phone and we upgraded hers to froyo and she isnt getting this problem. ..Wtf orange sort it out like
