I did consider getting the Iphone 4 when I was due for an upgrade, however, on seeing what Goots was using and some background fiddling in the O2 store I came to the conclusion that the SGS was for me. I have to agree with what many people are saying on here that the SGS is not very "out of the box" friendly and I was very nervous about flashing a new firmware that was not approved by O2. I have found that if you are waiting for the upgrade to come via Kies from your service provider you will be waiting too damn long. Kies was always an issue with my SGS when I first had it, but since getting it up the the latest firmware I have had 0 problems. No force closes and very little lag. I do think that the SGS is the future (I can only speak for myself). Give your phone time and consider fiddling about with it, there is very little you can do wrong aslong as you follow the great "how to" guides on here.

The I-phone is a great out of the box product. It is ready to rock and roll as soon as you get it. The SGS is very poor out of the box and needs (in my experience with mine) lots of coaching and encouragment (upgrading and rooting) to make the most of it. I am still forever miffed at the lack of flash and have still not found an "app" to fix it. Also think of the experience apple have with the Iphone. Please correct me if I am wrong everyone but samsung have not been making smart phones as long as apple have..

Give your SGS the love and attention it needs and it will evolve into the phone you always wanted it to be.

You say the iPhone and SGS are not for everyone but they should be for the vast majority. I appreciate techy types like the customisation of android phones but 99% of people need Apple levels of usability. Given the money made is selling these phones I do think that the software is very poor considering.
Well my friend, first off.. there is a very simple solution to your problem. Sell the SGS and become a iSheep again

(PS: this is not directed towards you.. just my honest, sincere opinion, please don't take offence)
Secondly, what Tufftoad said was exactly what he meant.. Android isn't for everyone and obviously not for you and not for those "99% of people who NEED apple levels of usability" but unfortunately.. those 99% of people are exactly those people who jumped on to apple bandwagon without doing any research because it was "Cool" to do so then and now these exact "99% of people who need apple levels of usability" again jumped the band wagon and jumped to Android without doing any research and then start complaining that its not what they had hoped. But the fault lies not in the phone, not in the operating system.. but in those "99% of people who NEEd apple levels of usability" but don't do any research and get themselves into what they have no clue about and then start crying wolf. If they had spent some time learning about what they are getting into, this wouldn't be an issue.

As for me personally, i'd NEVER be anyone's sheep. Just the way i've always been and i know it comes with some sacrifices and time investment but in the long run, it always pays off. I love the way my phone runs, I'm not a true "techy type" either, eventhough i run linux at home (again, don't want to be anyone's sheep) and it did take me a little time to figure things out and now my phone runs great. No Lags, No Hang up's, runs faster then any other phone out there.. its customised to the way i like it, evrything is perfect... but thats only because i knew what i was getting into and knew it'd take some time and effort for me to get there and i put in my time and did my research.

Just like Goots said: iPhone is for people who started smoking in high school because all the cool kids did

If you are willling to put in some time reading and playing with the phone, you will realize the benifits of FREEDOM are amazing

Dude you must be on a pretty old firmware version if you don't have Flash. Either that or you're using an iPhone

I will be turning mine in to collect the insurance I bought on it [150$ charge] after i smash it with a hammer. This Bell Galaxy S is the worst phone I have owned and I will be selling my replacement to get a Iphone 4. I am a Apple hater but Im gonna have to swallow my pride as the Iphone 4 is a superior product there is no argument. It is really to bad this phone turned me off Android and Samsung. I think in the future if google sells phones direct in Canada I might consider it but for now Android is just not there yet for me.

When 'I said some people prefer Iphone and some prefer SGS' I meant it for what it exactly means. In respect of the 'straight out the pack' use of the phone, it's not good if you bought an SGS since it was released. The reason why I said this was because the software was not up to speed with the phone.

You must also remember that Android is not affiliated to one particular phone manufacturer, unlike the Iphone and OS X. This is the reason that every Iphone is good out the pack, the manufacturer can update the phone when they want. With Android the network provider, software provider or the phone manufacturer all release and authorise software release at their own pace.

Also take into consideration that the mobile phone technology and mobile phone software develop at different paces and are also released at different times.

I've got this damned cog back! I gotta shut up sometimes!

The Iphone is a superior product in your eyes, as it depends what each individual person wants out of their product. Your statement should've been "The Iphone is a superior package".

How is Android not as good OS X? Please explain this to me. From what I understand the only thing that made iOS 4 better than android was the touchscreen usability and that was developed in Froyo. Besides getting Froyo we will now be blessed with Ginger bread.

Secondly, iOS developers know what their customers want because the customers have little flexibility with what they can do with their phone. Therefore the majority of Apple customers are happy.
Android however has to develop their software for a wide variety of phones that are capable of doing a wide variety of tasks. There will be more unhappy people with Android as Android users have a more variety of requirements.

My phone has never been slow, has never done what it wants to do and every time I play with it, I still can get it working again.

    What more do you need?

Yes, I hate the iphone, I think its boring, an eye sore and nothing new

Just can't wait for something better to come out so I can research weather to get it or not or just get an iphone and shoot myself in the head
