    True, true... :P
But with a bit of experimenting (Compatibility modes) it might work.

I just bought a Galaxy S and it came with the JF7 firmware. Does the firmware version matter? Would I be able to root the phone using this method?

    Captivate?

I feel like I know the answer for my question, but just to be on a safe side: Does this root operation work on the Captivate? Thank you.

I got the Captivate with AT&T. I haven't tried with firmware yet, but my understanding since it blocks any attempt to install anything but AndroidMarket soft - the firmware might face the same. Btw, the phone works well, although I am concerned about its battery - it gets warm too fast during usage and the battery barely stands a day (12-14 hours). I will keep you posted as soon as I root it. Thanks much for your respond.

I was trying to root my phone via your instructions. When I tried to do it though my pc I could not access any of the storage/folders on my phone, and my pc was only showing it as a F: drive that I couldn't actually open. Then I decided to root it directly through my phone. I got the update.zip and put it in the right place according to your directions, then when I got to the system recovery page I selected reinstall packages because my screen was not showing the option you listed. I then encountered this message (E: Error in /sdcard/update.zip Install Aborted). I apologize for the small book, but I wanted to make sure you knew my process so it would be easy to hopefully find what I was doing wrong. You know its bad when you cant even make the newb instructions work for you :P
    Thanks in advance!
