    Speed difference

Why do different SGSs run at different speeds on quadrant??

AND WHY does my SGS only run at 1950 now when it ran at 2200 (ish) on eclair?

    Why is the world round?

    Why does my head hurt?

What do those men in white coats want Mummy?

I only get 1860, and that was from a fresh Froyo upgraded phone! How do you get such a good score!

Background processes, running apps or services, widgets on homescreen. Things like these will affect the quadrant score you are getting.

Quadrant scores only for bragging rights guys. How your phone runs is irrelevant to quadrant scores. At least day to day usage.

Not even sure if Quadrant is a reliable benchmark tool?

I ran Quadrant and got 1650. Turned off phone, booted it up, let scanning run etc. Ran Quadrant and got 1702. I ran Quadrant again and got 1944.

And what's the point of day to day life if you don't have bragging rights

I run the test about five times then pick the most average one

That's probably cause when you turned off your phone, it closed some processes you had running prior which freed up a bit more ram for you to get a higher score.
