OK, what am I missing. I use the phone dialing keypad, type in *#*#1472365#*#* and the screen clears.
Where do I type in "gps test" and then how do I find and turn on skyhook?

    I have a Captivate 2.1-update1

    Thanks,

    More about Skyhook here:

    http://gigaom.com/2010/07/02/skyhook-samsung/

Could it be so easy? (And what is Samsung waiting for turning it on?)
I don't see skyhook anywhere, not under app settings or SUPL/CP.

It depends what version of Android you are running. The Skyhook option isn't present on 2.2 FroYo. Whether it is permenantly on or off with FroYo, I'm not sure!

I have been search on the internet that some people solved gps problem by modifying LBSTestMode. But some peoples still faced problems to make SGS locked gps signals.

For additional tips and tools you can try to install and run "GPS Test" from market and latest Maverix. I don't know why, but mine can locked gps faster (beside do edit LBSTestMode)

Locking on to GPS is not a problem.... Using it to navigate a journey is a MASSIVE problem. I use my phone all the time as a GPS sat. nav system and it's bloody awful.
My old Nokia 5800 is always in my glovebox as a backup and is far and away a better solution for driving.

Why the hell the sgs is so bad I don't know, but it IS terrible.

Whenever there's a junction or a parallel road coming up, it loses definition and places you on that parallel road, not the one you've been on for the past hour!?

Awful implementation and coding. I assume the GPS receiver is being hampered by another process or piece of hardware because it's ALWAYS crap.

All I know is, my little 5800 is massively superior as a satnav device. If only it had the SGS's screen.... I'd never have changed!

GPS is essential for me as I am a runner and I use Runkeeper to track my routes. I am receiving my Galaxy S in 2 days so I will be testing its GPS straightaway. If I have the problem with its fix than I'll try the link Steve above gave. If that fails, back to the shop it goes

I've heard a couple of people mention that their GPS is absolutely useless when using the stock (free) google apps (navigator, mytracks etc) but works like a charm when using Co-Pilot live or another one which I can't remember the name of.
