    Fix for GPS?

    *#*#1472365#*#* gps test

Type this in using the keypad and then find skyhook and turn it on. This will help your GPS locate quicker and stay locked.
    ** Don't change anything else **

    More about Skyhook here:

    http://gigaom.com/2010/07/02/skyhook-samsung/

Could it be so easy? (And what is Samsung waiting for turning it on?)

I just tried it (indoors at the balcony), it locates less satellites (6-7) and seems to lock much quicker and stay locked between (3-7). I will try it out road later and see if it can really lock the position when moving. My problem with GPS was it loses the position so easy, it is nearly useless to use the Sat Nav in town where there is lots of turning and traffice lights.

This is really interesting, I take it for skyhook to work wifi needs to be on? To read the wifi AP's near by? I wonder if changing the a accuracy to a higher or lower value will make the GPS more or less accurate?. Time to experiment..

Edit: WOW - This is impressive I'm sitting under 6 stories of concrete and iron I have full signal inside here using Sygic...Awesome find. I changed the accuracy to 30 by the way don't know if that helped with Skyhock on and wifi on.

2nd Edit: Ok in regards to accuracy, the higher the value the lower the SnR of satilites that will lock on. For example at 100, it will lock onto satellites with low signal str. Like 24. But you might have less accuracy.

The lower the setting the more accuracy you'll get as the GPS will only lock onto high signal strength satellites . Ignoring the weak ones (not locking onto them).

Could it be to tell the phone when to lock the satellites when it reaches the Accuracy number?

so its speed vs accuracy? that actually makes sense

Edit: WOW - This is impressive I'm sitting under 6 stories of concert and I have full signal inside here using Sygic...Awesome find. I changed the accuracy to 30 by the way don't know if that helped with Skyhock on and wifi on.
how could you use wifi when youre using your gps? if youre driving wouldnt the wifi signal die within a few seconds?

Not the wifi is getting the AP's where you are and using that calculate your position I think. Like google maps does.

I have also tried to test this, but honestly, I don't find any real difference. You say that it locks to signal 24 sats with higher accuracy, but it did that before as well. The problem is that it drops anything below 22, and doesn't lock to more than 8 sats. Sygic is also ok for a quick fix, but yesterday I tried walking around the block and it was dropping the signal every few seconds... so it seems that we're back to square one. (unless you have new info)

I wrote to Samsung reporting the GPS issue... let's see.

following upgrading to JM5 I can no longer lock on to GPS, it is continualy searching. I have tried this fix but it has made any difference. It appears to locate my position but if I look for directions, it will give me the time & distance but just says 'searching for GPS' I have left it for a while but it doesn't change. Anybody got any ideas?
