Moving to Samsung Galaxy S

Hello To all,

I want to know from dear members like you, if I should buy Samsung Galaxy S and If i will be happy with it

As you can see from my name I am moving from a Nokia N900

These are some of the things I want to have that my n900 did not have,

*Much more live community and applications in broad and popularity(Android) unlike this maemo 5 with maybe 2,000 apps and 50 of them useful much better store

*Much better performance, I would like a much higher ram memory then 256mb and if possible a total of 1gb ram combined with swap memory also I heard the hummingbird processor is the fastest on the market for android phones(Better Multitasking)

I am not too familiar with the Android os, but from what I understand it is cross platform from devices and all the applications work for android phones.

Never thought of putting Android on your N900? A lad I know at work has got one and he says there should be a stable Android ROM out for the N900 very soon.

That said the SGS will do what you want as long as you're prepared to tweak it. I found it very disappointing until I got JG1 on and the MoDaCo R2 ROM, Launcher Pro and a few other bits and pieces, and now I really like it.

Not to put the Maemo community down, but I suspect that the Android ROM for Maemo will be nothing more than a novelty or a cool thing to show your friends. I don't think it will ever "feel" like an Android device, quite simply because... well... it isn't. So if you like Android you are of course much better off buying a phone that was developed with Android in mind.

The N900 is a wonderful tech gadget, but there are a lot of things that feel clunky and cumbersome to me... One of those things is making a phone call... another thing is receiving a phone call and in particular, answering it. If it's in my pocket and someone calls, I often hit the red button by accident or mute it or what have you. I have been accepting of that because there are so many things about the N900 that are great. But I have decided I want a phone that does the basic tasks well PLUS other things like games (the N900 is not a good device for gamers...)

Sure Android has its issues, all operating systems do. Maemo has epic fails and epic wins, I am sure Android does as well.

To the original poster: it all boils down to this question: What do you use your phone for? What are the most important features for you? Answer those questions and choose your operating system accordingly.

Now I want it have a very good internet browser very fast internet speed capabilities around 7 megabits to download.I want it to have a very fast graphic processor to run games like Quake 2 with high framerates.Overall I want to perform execute tasks much more smoothly and of course multitask.At the end when it comes to making a simple phone call I dont want to rotate the screen everytime I make a phonecall.

My opinion:
Internet browser: the browser on the N900 is the best mobile browser I have ever tried. But I do think the Dolphin browser for Android is almost as good.

Graphics processor: Galaxy S, hands down.

Smooth and easy execution of tasks and multitasking: this is a tough one. I love the multitasking on the N900, it's incredibly powerful. I think multitasking in Maemo is better than on Android. But the performance of simple tasks on the N900 can be a chore sometimes. In Android you have more choices as to which calendar or notepad you want to use. You can pick the ones you like and that suit your workflow. In Maemo you have fewer choices. Just based on that fact I give this point to Android.

The ease of making and receiving phonecalls: Android wins, no question about that.

Well, these are MY opinions anyway.

Yeah the biggest thing I like in the n900 is the multitasking window,
But by multitasking I meant more apps running at the same time.

Could you please explain to me the drna video output of the phone is it in 720p to a external display?

Also I did alot of research of which unlocked android phone would perform best, and after all I came to the conclusion that samsung galaxy s is the most powerful unlocked android powered phone?

If you don't mind could you please tell me where I should get the Samsung Galaxy S, I never bought an android device before and I use ATT
