As I was reading this thread, I received my 1st ever phone call on my brand new SGS, obtained from Carphonewhorehouse. The call was from Orange customer services asking how I was getting on with my new phone. This gave me the opportunity to ask about Orange's policy on crippled internet. He said that d/l should be up to 7.2 mbs, and that they do not cripple speeds no matter where you source your phone. He did say I had "unlimited Internet for a mobile phone", and when pushed admitted the limit was 500 MB, and you get no warning when approaching the limit. I already knew all that, but the abuse of the English language really annoys me.
I almost went for T-Muppet, but chose Orange at the last moment. A lucky escape! This scam needs to be widely publicised!
steve00117 - apologies for the delayed response.
But i havent been charged anymore than i was before. So i still have got the good speeds (variable) and not getting charge any extra that i had feared. I would give them a call and go through what i did. I will PM you a msg with lot of info that i sent another user to see if that helps. I havent heaad back if they also got it sorted

As bad as their coverage is in my area (VERY....grrrr) I cannot recommend Vodafone more highly. I got a txt saying I was approaching my limit (Gb) and again a week later that I was VERY CLOSE to my limit....
My first txt arrived at 500Mb, the 2nd at 750 Mb...... Now.... I know what you'rethinking... BUT I'd prefer to know that I was APPROACHING my limit than have a nasty bill at months end..
Nice one Vodafone!
I have exactly the same experience as GC1984 - almost word for word. I am now getting 1900 ish d/l and 500 u/l. I can't claim to understand all that was said in this, but the bottom line is that I should have been getting this service from day 1 - so I have got a few freebies from them as a result. I support what gc1984 said - get on to Customer Services and they will get it sorted for you!![]()

Sorry but I have raised this with CS several times now and had it escalated. The result was an email stating that as I had bough third party then it is capped and more or less tough luck. They refused to acknowledge that I should have the higher speed saying it was the third party who sold me the phone without telling me it was capped and that, and I quote, "all third party contracts which T-Mobile supply are speed capped" Niether T-Mon nor the resellers make this clear.
I can only repeat that I too was having this problem, 350Kb/s download speed typically, and a call to T Mob Customer services is all that it took to get it sorted. I now have 2400Kb/s downloads, and about 500Kb/s uploads. My phone was from a third party, purchased with a T Mobile package deal.
The (very helpful and knowledgeable) Customer Services lady, based in the Philippines, got me to reboot my phone while she did some tweak, and on reboot the new speed was there! This shows that the speed capping is changeable beyond question, so I wouldn't take no for an answer.
Quite right Scaremonger! In my case they guy on the end of the line was stumped as to what the issue was and took him a bit of searching to find out what the issue was. Not sure if this was a ploy so that it wouldnt give off the idea that they knew exactly what the issue was - but he did the same. Turned my phone off and changed my profile and then when i turned it on - bingo!
its not right that ppl have to go through all this though just to get what you really should be getting!!!!
When I mentioned that others here had had their cap removed they asked for your account or telephone numbers. Even if you were willing to supply these to me they may then say you should not have it and put you back where you were. But if you would like to risk it you can PM me the relevant detail.
Another update.
Just had a reply from "Which Magazine". The editor has passed the details to the development team to investigate.
