Transfer between Galaxy Fit & Galaxy S3 Mini

Hello! My Dad has a Samsung Galaxy Fit and I want to upgrade him to a Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini for his 70th bday in a few weeks. I have an iPhone so not up with Android technology - what would be the best way to transfer his contacts/photos/music etc onto the new phone? I have heard of the Smart Switch app but not sure would work on the Fit? Any advice very gratefully received! From a very non-techie daughter
