Cannot delete MP3 files on SD Card?

Hi there

I am having a problem removing duplicate MP3 files from my SD card on my SGS. Have tried using Kies, and also using Windows Explorer when phone connected.

Bizarre thing when using Windows Explorer, occasionally it sees everything on SD card ok, but then suddenly it cannot see anything on there except the folders, but all the folders appear empty, and they obviously are not as there are loads of MP3s on there.


Kies sees the files, but when i highlight some or even just one file, and try to delete the file, I get the box popup saying am i sure i want to delete the files, I click yes, but nothing happens.

Any suggestions?

Can you try to do it using the phones built-in file explorer ? ( "My Files" )

I wonder if the files are set to read only (r) where they really should be read-write (rw).

I have similar problems, though I am trying connection to a new Galaxy S for the first time.
My first impression is that the Kies user interface is really unhelpful. For example, it says "Please connect your phone" when it is also showing me the files on the phone!!!

So I am trying to avoid it and use Windows Explorer.
This shows 2 Removable Disks, which i assume are the removable sd card, and the internal sd card.
However, I notice that some say that (on the phone) /sdcard/sd/ is the removable sd card - because Android 2.1 does not provide more than 1 external device, and the internal sd card is an "external device" to Android 2.1.

On the phone, I tried making a directory /sdcard/sd/Music. Then, on the computer, I copied music files into /sdcard/sd/Music, with strange results:
1) I can see these music files from the computer, when the phone USB is mounted using the drag-down menu.
2) I cannot these music files from the phone "My files" application.
3) These files are listed by the music player.
4) The music player will not play any of them, saying "this file does not exist".

This is all very contradictory, and I do not understand it.
A) I suspect the music data-base could possibly have references to non-existent files,
but this is not the case here, because I can see these files on the phone from Windows Explorer on the computer.

B) I have read that /sdcard/sd is where the removable sd card is mounted,
but from Windows Explorer on the computer Removable Disk (H contains
H:\DCIM\Camera\video file ...
whereas Removable Disk (I contains ( among other things)
I:\sd\Music\xxxx , where xxxx is a list of all the problematic files that I copied.
Why are the contents different? What is going on here?
The phone seems really excellent, and easy to use, in nearly every other way.

I had similar issues and for me it was all down to the procedure for disconnecting the phone etc....you have to do a safe removal from the pc then unmount the card at the phone end.....total pain.
I just wait til i'm not using the phone...turn it off and then put the memory card into the pc with a usb adaptor...far faster transfer as well...2 or 3 gb of music takes 7 or so minutes as against 20 or so via the cable.
