    How good is GPS

It would be useful to be able to reduce number of devices in the car ... I currently use TomTom6 on an old HPiPaq with separate BT GPS receiver.

Is the Galaxy S going to do as good a job as TT ? ........... and if so do I need to add and app to do this, and if so what one ?

This question is very vague. That is because, we do not know which model of the Galaxy S you have (american, european, etc.), and if we did, Galaxy S is said to have poor GPS reception.

This might change when they officially roll out Froyo 2.2. They are trying to fix the gps problem. Not to mention, we also don't know what firmware version you have for your phone - since they did random "fixes" on each version.

Nonetheless, I believe a dedicated TomTom gps would exceed the capabilities of most phones with gps. Maybe give it a few weeks when we get froyo to see if gps improves. As for the program, there are many "reviews/opinions" of gps software in this thread so just look around!

The GPS is useless, completely useless.

I still use my old HTC legend in the car for satnav, Galaxy S can't get a lock unless I stop and stick my hand out the window.

A lot of people are having a lot of issues with the GPS on the Galaxy S.

Personally, I didn't have too much trouble but I certainly wouldn't use it as a SatNav.

Having said that, it does seem a hell of a lot better since the FroYo firmware upgrade, so maybe I was giving it a little too much credit to begin with.

2 questions then ..... # why would you not use it as satnav ... would have thought that was primary reason for the GPS function.

    # does that mean it's better or worse than the iPhone GPS
