HI
For outdoor activities 'Viewranger' off-road navigation is the best of the best. You don't need internet connection to use it.
Hi!
How reliable is it on Galaxy S, when you are not in range of mobile network?
I had a look at it before but I find it quite expensive as a smartphone product. I used MotionX on iPhone which costed me £4.99 and it was doing quite decent job, the thing is when you are ready to spend £150 for maps, you maybe actually better buying just normal GPS device, which will do this job much better, that's why I'm interesting how good it actually is?
indeed, here in Australia you can buy a 3.5" GPS with all the maps, mounting brackets, etc, for just a tad over $A100.....
Everything mentioned is for SATNav use. But another use of the GPS is for tracking your routes when running or walking. For this, I use Runkeeper. An excellent piece of software that has motivational customised voice readouts for your current progress and upload stats unline to share and compete with other runkeeper users. Other similar software thats recommended is Cardio trainer which you can enter all of your workouts, not just cardio but exercises etc.
Is it safe to assume the GPS on the Galaxy S works OK with 3rd party software? Because it's a known fact it's rubbish with google navigator/my tracks.

Yes, I bought Maverick Pro software, and I'm quite happy with it, It does allow to use cached maps in many formats, for me quite useful, you can predownload them on your PC and then transfer to the phone. They do drop the price from time to time, so best is to wait for opportune moment![]()

Based in the UK, I've been using the free app Skobbler for the last month. On certain areas on the M8 motoway the Google Sat Nav would lose position, however, Skobbler has worked perfectly to date.
