    Help calender problem

I got my Galaxy today and love it but one huge problem.

I need to be able to sync the phone calender with Google calender and it only works one way. Everything from Google speedily appears on my phone but not the other way around.

I initially thought that it was because when I save an appointment on my phone it saves to the Galaxy calender rather than the Google calender (though you have to do this initially) So I went and changed those appointments to Google appointments but whatever I do I cannot get them to appear on my Google calender on my PC - this is a deal breaker and will have to send it back unless it can be fixed.

    Please help!

If you choose your google account when creating a new contact or calendar event on your phone then it automatically syncs with your online google address book/calendar.

Likewise, if you create or edit a contact or calendar event online, your phone automatically syncs to reflect that change.

The phone is definitely capable of this because it's the system I use.

If yours isn't working then there must be a configuration issue somewhere.

Don't use the phone calendar for anything, always choose the google one. Same when it asks you where to store the contacts.

Apparently with the FroYo update, we will have the option of setting the google account as the default for all contacts and calendar events, until then you will have to set it manually.

EDIT: You need to make sure account syncing is enabled for this to work ( Menu > Settings > Accounts and Sync > Auto-sync)

Usually you hit the back button until you get back to the home screen, that closes the app, but there are some apps which are a pain to close like this, the internet browser being the main one because the back button just takes you to the previous page browsed.

The best thing to do is install a task manager, and the Samsung one is one of the best available. You can run it as a widget on one of your home screens to instantly see how many apps are still running, and you can tap it once to view or close running apps. You can also use it as an app uninstaller. Check your Samsung Apps app on the phone to see if the Task Manager is available to you, it should be, depending on your location.

Once you have downloaded and installed it, go to your home screen then press and hold a blank area of the screen. A popup will open, and from that select "Samsung Widgets", then choose "Program Monitor". That will place the widget on your home screen. If you ever want to remove it, just press and hold the widget for a second and then drag it to the trashcan that appears at the bottom of the screen.

I have a similar problem I've had my phone for 4 days, (I have imported my calender from Mozilla Thunderbird/Lightning).

I cannot sync between my Galaxy Calender and my Google calender (or vice-versa) at all.

I receive email notifications from my pc google calender via gmail OK, but all the appointments etc on my google calender stay there and likewise on my galaxy calender.

In the settings>accounts and sync>General sync settings, I have; Background data - TICKED, Auto-sync - TICKED, In Manage Accounts: I have both my gmail accounts marked sync is ON. If I select my gmail account, under the "Data & synchronization" screen, I get; Sync Contacts - TICKED, Sync Google Mail - TICKED, Sync Calender - TICKED.

If I go into calender>menu>settings>calender sync, then select my gmail account under "manage accounts", then under the "Data & synchronization" screen, I get Sync Contacts - TICKED, Sync Google Mail - TICKED, Sync Picasa Web Albums - TICKED and no sign of sync calender!!

Help please, how can I fix this and is it easy, I've heard that I have to completely have to reload the the software!! and I can't even find out how to back-up my phone up on Kies.

    thanks

There are two different ways of storing calendar events on your phone. When you create a new event you MUST tell the phone to use your google account. Unfortunately, the phone default is "My Calendar" which is nothing to do with google and as such can't be synced with a google online calendar.

Hopefully there will be an option to set your google account as the default storage location soon, possibly with the upcoming FroYo update.

When creating a new calendar event, you will see an option "Calendar >" which is just underneath the "All day" checkbox. If you hit the "Calendar >" button it will ask where you wish to store the event, obviously choose your google account. This way any events you add on your phone will show up on your online calendar and vice versa.

Unfortunately, as far as I know there is currently no way to transfer calendar events that are stored in "My Calendar" over to your google account other than manually re-inserting them.

A quick tip - this goes for contacts too, whenever you add a new contact, ALWAYS choose "Save contact to Google" rather than Phone or Sim. This way your contacts list will always stay syncronised with your online google address book.

I have other thread on here showing how to transfer contacts into your google account if they are not already stored there. CLICK HERE TO VIEW IT

thanks very much for your help Goots.

Whilst going through the steps you mention I have discovered something rather interesting.

I currently have 2 gmail accounts, when I checked the other gmail account by calender>menu>settings>calender sync, then select my gmail account under "manage accounts", then under the "Data & synchronization" screen, I get Sync Contacts - TICKED, Sync Google Mail - TICKED, Sync Calender - TICKED.

The problem is that the google calender and google contacts on my pc is under the other gmail address. So I've shared the calender with the 2nd gmail account and it has now sync'd to my galaxy calender - it's not the most elegant solution but it's works for now.

So I suppose the question now is do I move all my contacts over to my second gmail account and bin the first one

Or I guess you could just add the other google account to the phone. Nothing says you are limited to a single account

Do you mind if I ask another question?

    Storing files!

I wanted to put a couple of e-mails in a 'work' folder - no idea how!

I downloaded some of my own pics from Flickr but they didn't appear in the gallery and I have given up trying to make them!

    What am I missing here?

Log into the gmail account you want to close through a web browser (on your PC, not your phone) then go to Contacts.
Drop down the "More Actions" drop box and select Export.
Choose "All contacts" and export to a "Google CSV format".
Remember where you save the file.
    Log out.

Log into the gmail account you wish to keep using through a web browser (on your PC, not your phone) then go to Contacts.
Drop down the "More Actions" drop box and select Import.
Click on "Choose File" and point it to the file you just exported.

This will import all the contacts into the gmail account you wish to keep.

Remember to make sure the phone is syncing with the correct google account otherwise you will be in a permanent state of wtf?
