well said Goots and I'm sure we all appreciate your time and patience replying to posts.

Kies is doing my head in at the moment with multiple contacts but it does come down to teething problems and how flexible the OS is.

    1) Why would you want two separate contact lists? Just save everything to your google account, that way the same contact list is available to you regardless of which medium you're using to communicate.

    2) If you only want contacts which have phone numbers to display, go to Contacts > Menubutton > Display Options and put a tick where it says "Only display contacts that have phone numbers".

    3) You don't have to transfer each contact individually to gmail via vcard email attachments - that's ridiculous! Do a batch export/import as I have detailed in post #2 of this thread.

I know it's not perfect at the moment, but you really should do more research before making a post like that, you could be putting potential SGS users off, and if we want this phone to be a huge success and supported for a long time, we really need to encourage and help people having problems.

    /rant over

Wow a reply to a 2 year old thread! I'd forgotten all about this conversation.

Welcome to the site mate, yep the info still holds true, it's better to use your google account for syncing contacts and calendars, for multiple reasons

So, this post 'aint dead yet!

I have an original Galaxy S.
I've followed your steps to sync all EXISTING contacts to gmail with great success. All contacts now synced.

My problem: Any new contact I add using my phone is automatically saved to the phone memory. I am not given the choice to save to SIM/gmail, nor can I find a setting anywhere that lets me edit the current default location. I'm pretty sure I used to get prompted with a choice when adding contacts. I think I must have selected 'phone' as the storage location & checked the box along the lines of 'remember this choice for this action'. Now I can't chane back!

I've googled the shit out of this with no luck - surely I'm not the only person to have had this problem.
Please help - I've got my contacts sorted (100% gmail) & I want it to stay that way for future contacts!

    Cheers
    -Adam

You should have just asked here in the first place

When you add a new contact you should see at the top of the screen where the contact will be saved. If you click on it then it will bring up more options where you can save the contact to....see screen shots below....I'm on Android Jelly Bean (4.1.1) so will look slightly different:
