But I would not recommend that you even try it because there are reports on the web about people bricking their phones this way. If you have a phone with download/recovery disabled you should just stick to the stock firmware and not start experimenting... At least until there is a confirmed method that works for you.
Not a chance I would risk it to be honest. I have been very lucky over the years with playing and flashing this and that and only bricked one phone and that was my own. I have NEVER messed with android before so im not confident enough to delve too far into the abyss lol.

My friends orange branded definitely goes into recovery, I tested it after mine failed. It really did annoy me.

Ok well i've just spoken to samsung, a guy there told me a few things (also making a point that he could get fired for telling me!). He said a lot of the time it's a case of not doing the 3 button thing correctly as it's temperamental, or that it could be that it actually is disabled on some branded handsets. Then went on to say customers aren't meant to use this function anyway. He also said that their programs automatically put the phones into download mode when they connect the phone up. Could we get hold of that perhaps!?

Anyway the point i'd like to raise is this-- KIES automatically puts the phone into download mode, flashes, and resets the phone to a working state afterwards. So why is there a chance it may go bad and require you to enter recovery mode, even though it's an official firmware that has been flashed to it? If that were the case there'd be hundreds of people complaining that had innocently done a firmware upgrade? All we're doing with the registry is fooling KIES into thinking it's a generic handset rather than a branded one aren't we?

Right, i've spoken with an engineer at a samsung service centre near me - and he said that the 3-button recovery/download modes is what they have to use in order to flash customer handsets with their flashing equipment. So basically, if the 3-button modes don't work, it's a fault, and they would send the phone back to samsung! Having said that, this engineer i spoke to said he hasn't come across this problem as yet. However, he went on to say he's not sure if you could get the handset swapped out purely to access the recovery/download, as customers are not meant to be using this feature!

That forced upload sounds scary. Did you ask what that was?

Thought as much. So my phone wont go into recovery or connect with kies. Oh the joys. *rolls eyes*

Oh right, so the 3 finger salute don't work on your handset either then?
