Can anyone help with firmware upgrading basics?

Hi, would like the basics of upgrading this handset explained if possible. I just got this handset, and as with all my other phones i've had, i like to keep up to date with firmware. So far i've installed KIES, and connected the phone and started the firmware updater, and it comes up with a message saying "this version cannot be upgraded". What does that mean exactly?

    Handset is t-mobile branded.

Dunno, but I'm in the same position as you. T-Mob UK, and 'cannot be upgraded'.

Test mode in KIES does nothing, nor does the registry fudge whilst KIES is running.

So what exactly does it mean? Has T-Mobile blocked the handset from having any firmware update?

I have tried all combinations, it's not having it at all! So is there no way of recovery at all then? Like putting a file in the root of the sd or something?

You have the same problem as me. I cant for the life of me get into recovery. Tries all 3 options which are on a youtube video somewhere and nothing.

I think you guys only have one option to get into download or recovery mode, and that is to use ADB. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=749470

But I would not recommend that you even try it because there are reports on the web about people bricking their phones this way. If you have a phone with download/recovery disabled you should just stick to the stock firmware and not start experimenting... At least until there is a confirmed method that works for you.
