How to increase battery life on the Galaxy S

While the Galaxy S has an excellent battery life for a 4' Android device here a few tips to help increase your uptime without charging.

    • Turn off the automatic brightness and set it to the lowest setting. The display is the biggest power user.
    • Select only 2G if your not using 3G or 3.5G (network settings)
    • Turn off bluetooth and wifi when not in use
    • Turn off automatic background syncing
    • Don't use live wallpapers
    • Avoid widgets that use live updates
    • Make sure you close apps properly by going through the menu, hitting home doesnt close apps
    • You can try apps like startup auditor and autokiller to kill of running background applications.
    • If you really wanna go crazy use a solid black wallpaper, it wont use any LEDs at all
    • Some Task Managers seem to work against battery saving and consume more battery doing so ending tasks at regular intervals. Monitor these applications to see if they improve or decrease battery life.
    • Poor signal strength decreases battery life - Try not to leave you phone in a bag or place that might inhibit the signal strength. With low signal strenght the Galaxy S will consume a larger amount of power to maintain connection with the nearest cell tower or searching for another.

I don't think those apps affect battery life, according to OS specifications, they should be in a totally idle state when not active.

I turn off auto sync on gmail and only turn bluetooth on when needed.WIFI I leave on all the time if theres a connection where I am.The only program I do menu exit is co pilot to disable gps.I leave 3g enabled at all times.I use weather channel and beautiful widgets for weather but with geo location by network rather than gps.I never use a task manager or kill apps manually.I also use live wall papers.Doing all the above my battery life is great so android obviously manages multitasking very intelligently.Obviousy i could get more with 2g disable wifi ect but there really seems to be no need.Gmail sync seems to be the battery killer, and obviously anything that holds a gps connection.gps rapes the battery.

I had 83% battery when i went to bed. woke up and only had 37 :S
It seems most of the battery was taken out by cell standby.

Thumbs down My battery is critical.

I've got some serious problems with my phone. I got it some days ago and the battery was at 60 percent. After some hours I had, to charge it. I thought it was ok since I had played so much with it, but after I heard that some people have been able to use it much longer I thought it was weird.. after that charge I played some games on it but 4.5 hours thee battery was empty. I switched background downloading off and I removed the live wallpaper. I also turned the mobile internet off and used wifi.... After 40 minutes of checking things on the internet, playing a little paper toss, the battery is on 80 percent. WTF

for the default browser or Dolphin browser, you have to hit the hard back button, youll know if it has closed the internet if you see the 'H' or '3G' tray icon stop showing the red and green arrows. (those arrows are at the very top of your phone)

do you think something is running in the backgroud? on android its very easy to close things wrong, where they will stay active in the background, and if its an app that uses internet connection, it will kill your battery.

i can suggest 2 apps from the market that might help you, Advance Task Killer (using this is a sure bet you dont have any apps running) and APNdroid (tap it to turn all internet access on/off, a sure bet no apps or widgets are accessing the internet in the background.
