Galaxy S on Orange UK. I need some advice

Im thinking about getting the Galaxy S on the Orange network. They are giving me an early upgrade but I want to know will orange put rubbish firmware on my phone? Does anyone have the phone on Orange and abble to comment on the firmware. Thanks.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure all the UK phones are unlocked, and will only get updates direct from Samsung.

It will have to a few things from orange but don't no if it will be sim lock as i got mine from car phone warehouse and a orange sim and not sim locked

Hi - I got mine as an Orange upgrade as you describe. It's simlocked but the software has not been otherwise "orangised". I'm hoping that when a new official firmware becomes available through Kies I will be able to install it no problems, but there hasn't been one yet to my knowledge..

I get this message in Kies:

Model Name: GT-I9000
Current Version: PDA: JF3 / Phone: JF3
This device's version cannot be updated

Now is that what other people get too? The Phrase "this device's version cannot be updated" worries me as it implies that I am prevented from updating (like maybe because Orange have locked the firmware?) - or am I being paranoid and it's the same message everyone else gets and it just means that there's no update available yet? Any feedback would be appreciated..

I'm on T-mobile and I too get the same message. I'm not too worried about any smaller updates, but I just hope this isn't a problem when Froyo is officially released....

Im on Orange, and im on the same firmware. I also get the same message through Kies. Im begining to think its Orange's fault. I will be one pissed off person if i cant get the 2.2 Froyo update!!

Mine was from Orange on 2nd day of Uk release, and i've just discovered its not simlocked. On JF3, but won't update through Kies.

So with Orange we shouldnt have any problems getting 2.2 on our phones when it comes out.

When it comes out I can't see ANYONE having problems updating to it.
