Every firmware i've tried has been the same, JM2, JM8, JPK, JPM etc, GPS hasnt improved or got any worse.

However it would be difficult to be any worse. lol

The GPS reception on my SGS2 has got steadily worse until now I can never get a lock on more than two satellites. Today, however, I've sort of cured it by accident! I removed the (Vodafone) SIM and voila! I'm now getting locks on at least ten sats within about 15 seconds - even when inside the house! I tried this repeatedly and the results were utterly consistent.

I then borrowed a Vodafone SIM from another phone and still got excellent GPS. Again I tried this repeatedly and the results were consistent.

I then put my original SIM back into the phone and it returned to being unable to get a lock on more than a couple of sats.

So it seems either my SIM is is causing a problem somehow or there is some sort of incompatibilty with it.

Tomorrow I'll go to my local Vodafone store and see if they will give me an exchange SIM. Will report back!

So you've got an anti-government tracking Sim too

Well I put a replacement SIM in this afternoon and, as expected, GPS reception remained brilliant... until Vodafone actually activated it a couple of hours later, whereupon it immediately became useless again. I borrowed an O2 activated SIM and GPS was fine with that, so the problem seems to be specific to active Vodafone SIMs. (The other Vodafone SIM I tried last night had been deactivated).

So I'll now be returning my Galaxy as unfit for purpose. A huge shame as it's a brilliant phone in many other respects. I suppose I could always try a Galaxy on a different network but I'd rather not have to change my number.
