My personal opinion is to try Dark knight ics rom, very fast & very stable.. :cool:
Also try Apex launcher (more features & more customization than most ics launchers)

My initial question was that by doing full wipe, will it delete contents from my "internal sd card"..???

Do you mean factory reset, wipe cache & wipe dalvik cache only..??

(My sgs i9000 is 16gb, hence I have plenty room on internal sd card)

If I swap nandroid backups (different roms for different firmwares) every other week .. Will I cause any damage to the phone or is not good idea..??

Are you using the OTA software update function..??
Have you tried samsung kies & checked what is the latest version available for you.. Using kies is safe & straight forward, you will be on latest...

Just an option (try it as your last option) do a factory reset..!! Will erase everything so backup all apps..

This happened to me once and I read in a forum that download Email notifier app from market.. Then thru that app delete txt msg the notification relates to.. Try it you have nothing to lose..
