Problem resolved, AT LAST!!

Deleting Kies and using only Odin,I loaded up the previous v. 4.0.3 which connected right away and installed itself
on my Galaxy S II set in Odin receive...

I´ve been through every avenue possible but Kies still does not recognise my Galaxy S II when I try to upgrade the software.

Checking the device manager in Win7 shows Galaxy usb device installed...
