: Galaxy S 3 Official update
topgunner 06-12-2012, 05:57 PM http://www.fun47.com/samsung-galaxy-s3-gets-its-first-official-firmware-update/
According to Samsung changelog, the update mainly includes stability improvements and more battery life.
Rallye James 06-12-2012, 06:09 PM It's been so long since I did an official update on the S, I can't remember, does it keep all your data or does it reset everything?
Also, should this update be available from the 'Software Update' on the phone or will I need to install Kies again?
Tufftoad 06-12-2012, 06:24 PM Haven't got the update myself yet...says update not available.

RichH 06-12-2012, 07:02 PM Should be available both via Kies and OTA. It's been pushed out to all Sim free S3's currently so you'll get the update sooner rather than later I would think. It is always wise to back up anything you don't want to loose or can't replace before doing any updates... just to be on the safe side.
Tufftoad 06-12-2012, 08:01 PM Updating through Kies now. Think it's all under the hood stuff but will update if there's anything worth mentioning.
edit: Kies offered me the update straight after I checked OTA, the choice to update via OTA may be limited by networks (Orange btw). With regards to the update I think there be a slight change to the animations but not sure, other than that about to run a few quadrant tests to see if it's done anything.
topgunner 06-12-2012, 08:08 PM Does not wipe anything and you can update over there air
stonkr 06-12-2012, 09:46 PM Have requested Admin expand the SIII section, so that should I ever get my pebble from Amazon :( I'll know where to look for all this stuff.
Swipermusic 06-13-2012, 05:31 AM I did the update yesterday after a notification from OTA . The only change I have noticed is improved battery life .
Deepmeister 06-13-2012, 05:45 AM Appeared as a notification when I connected to WiFi. Did not wipe data, just needed a restart after installing, and appears no different. Too early to tell if battery life has improved, but certainly not worsened which is a good thing.
Rallye James 06-14-2012, 10:22 AM I'm having a bit of trouble getting the update. I got a notification on the phone yesterday and it tried to download but I wasn't on wifi, so I stopped it, yet it kept trying to download each time until I rebooted the phone.
WHen I got home, connected to the wifi I tried the update option in the settings menu and it told me there was no update now.
So, I decided to install Kies, as much as I hate it. Kies told me the update was there, and downloaded it fine, but then put my phone into download mode and disconnected it from the PC and sat there doing nothing until I eventually rebooted. I got an error coming up that drivers could not be installed?
Not sure what else I can try but it will obviously not allow me to get future updates. It's the whole reason I abandoned Kies and stock firmwares on the old Galaxy S, but I wanted to keep this one stock for a while at least!
RichH 06-14-2012, 10:30 AM If you clear cache from recovery mode and connect to wifi you should be offered the OTA update again....
Swipermusic 06-14-2012, 11:44 AM Try ticking USB debugging mode and then restart Kies. Wait for drivers to install before attempting to flash.
Doomed 06-15-2012, 12:00 AM I'm having a bit of trouble getting the update. I got a notification on the phone yesterday and it tried to download but I wasn't on wifi, so I stopped it, yet it kept trying to download each time until I rebooted the phone.

I got this too and can't use kies:( Will look when I go to Root.
Rallye James 06-15-2012, 06:29 AM I managed to sort it out and update last night using Swiper's suggestion above. Connected the phone in debugging mode and it installed all the drivers, then turned debugging off, restarted Kies and went through it all again and it connected and updated fine :)
Swipermusic 06-15-2012, 08:29 AM That's good to hear. Better battery life. I always use the debug makes life easier!
Doomed 06-15-2012, 03:30 PM Managed to get the update now, but had to download it via network 3g instead of WiFi.
S4rge 06-23-2012, 04:07 PM Hi,
I have tried all the suggestions in the thread and still can't access the update, cleared cache, wifi on / off etc etc
My build number is I9300XXALE8 - but when I try to get the update it says there is none available.
Any further suggestions please
Thanks
RichH 06-23-2012, 05:05 PM I thought LE8 was the update?
However, I may well be wrong so I suggest you connect to Kies via your data cable and try that way.
Doomed 06-24-2012, 01:19 AM I got I9300XXALF2 on my last update.
