I am thinking a clean install of official ICS UK, when it comes out in a few days. Now i can odin install the software, but how do i do a totally clean install, wiping everything clean on the phone?
Have used the CWS wipe options etc, but of course back ups are left and it is not clean install, all music is there, photos and loads of other stuff.
Can i wipe my phone totally ready for a install of official ICS UK?

Either Settings > Privacy > Factory Data Reset

Or via recovery, Vol up + Home key - press power until the screen lights up then release power but keep the other two pressed.

yes i know that but none of those actually wipe the phone clean, i know how to use odin, CWM etc and those methods leave the phone full of stuff, music, pictures and i am sure other things.
please see my other thread SIM contacts problem - that is why i want to be able to do this

All that should be left is the data on your internal sd (and of course your external sd), which would be your pictures, music etc.

There is an option to format the internal sd when performing a factory reset via settings > privacy.

To prepare your phone for ICS you need to go into recovery:
Hold Volume up + Menu + Power until recovery screen appears.
Use volume up/down to hilight following and press Menu to carry out.
1. wipe cache partition
2. wipe data/factory reset
3. go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache

Power off (rather than reboot)

This will clean your phone, but leave data on your sd card.
If you want to clear hat too then go to:
1. Mounts and storage Menu
2.f ormat /sdcard

But not necessary.

maybe i will order a new SIM from Orange...
if you read my thread 'SIM contacts problems' you will understand why i want to wipe everything. Cant even store voicemail number now as that goes direct to the SIM!!!
also if ICS UK is soon official, would like a nice clean phone seeing as i have been playing with various ICS leaks over the last few months.
by the way, what exactly is the dalvik cache? dalvik... weird word.

Dalvik is the software that runs the apps on your phone.
The cache part is the bits it saves after carrying out an operation so that next time is doesn't have to start from the beginning and so speeds up the process.
It's a good idea to wipe the Dalvik Cache on a new installation.

Good call, have asked for Dalvik Cache to be added to the SGS Dictionary.
