Hello,

I bought my SGS2 when it came out. I had the Android 2.3 OS. I upgraded to 2.3.6 and that was always the latest version via Kies Firmware Updater. I used some custom ROMs like Lite'ning ROM and Criskelo ROM for awhile.

Now I discovered that my SGS2 is able to run ICS 4.0.3 which I'm using right now, and yesterday I was surfing the web for some official release date for this OS and found out something else. I discovered on Wikipedia SGS2 info that there is an official 4.0 version for SGS2 but it's called TouchWiz. Now I'm a bit confused. Don't really understand which is the latest firmware and OS version that my SGS2 can run.

PS. When will Android 4.0 be available for Kies Updater?

No idea when ICS will be released but Touchwiz is the launcher not the firmware.

The latest officially released SGS2 firmware is still 2.3.6 as the ICS is still in beta (ready for release) format.
The indications are that the officially released version of ICS will be carried out Over The Air (OTA) in March.

Regarding TouchWizz, this is simply Samsung's preferred launcher, but there are many others available if you don't like it.
Have a look at Wanam's site as he includes other launchers in his ROM's.
Nova is one I like.
