: Why do apps open themselves?

I'm curious to know why apps on the android system manage to open themselves without being asked to do so! It is really frustrating when I switch my phone on as it is super slow and takes ages to get into advanced task manager to kill them. They always manage to open up soon after anyway and I have to constantly kill them. Things like the video and music player always open themselves up and there is no option to stop doing this. This obviously effects speed and battery life.

Is this a common android problem? Is there a way to stop them opening without being commanded to?

Thanks in advance for any help

wait for an official firmware upgrade or do one of the latest leaked ones. The newer versions especially JP3 on froyo gives more built in task manager options etc

dont auto-kill any apps, and i personally wouldny kill any apps, in Advanced Task killer, these apps are just in the Bgnd.. or Idle, if you check androids running processes you'll see this. This means they arent being used, and wont 'make your phone slower' it actually makes it faster as when you call up an app its already in the RAM so this makes you phone run quicker.

hope you understand

Thanks for the reply. I don't fully understand though. If as you say it is better to leave the apps running, why does the performance of the phone improve once I have killed the apps?

Thanks
