Anyone read the report yet about Samsung update for SGS2 which increases the icon size by 30%? Effectively 3x3 on the homescreen and 3 in the dock.

With there battle with Apple you can see why they have done this.

Why 3x3? Why not 5x5 at least:)

Yuck. Looks like a kid's toy. Hopefully it will only affect Touchwhiz and other launchers can stay as they are.

Back in this forum :D

Well the problem with Samsung is the same as it was back in 2008/09, in time of i8910, the after sales customer support. Same went with S8500, and now in I9100. Three different platforms but same result! Not releasing the Firmware upgrades worldwide is a PITA. Some user in Europe even could get it updated OTA! Some stuck with 2.3.4, and the worst part always remains for us, the Indians, still stuck on 2.3.3 KF3. I don't know what's the policy of Samsung here but whatever it is customers like me will never like it and always will try to skip Samsung for future.
I've flashed XXKI3 anyway.

Hi,

I've just updated to 2.3.4. via Kies but it says I'm currently up to date. Is it supposed to be like this and you guys are putting a leaked version on or something or is something wrong with my Kies? :)

Any help is appreciated!

Please keep in mind I'm new to flashing phones etc so I don't know what a lot of it means. :)

Currently I9100XXKI3 is 2.3.5 and was released 15/11/09. It is available at Samfirmware to flash manually using Odin.

Updating via Kies is dependent on your network provider releasing their version of the firmware. The first people to get the update would be people with unlocked phones/stockfirmware, which is available at Samfirmware.

Edit: read the Forum Dictionary (http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/3758-SGS-Forum-Dictionary-New-members-please-read.) - In the newcomer section.

Then read some of the guides in Android Development - Debranding your SGS (http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/4692-Full-Guide-How-to-Debrand-your-Samsung-Galaxy-S2)

That would mean Samsung care about the customers, welcome to our world.......good phone though.

edit: I think you're in the minority if you don't have a computer. Plus if you can fork out £500 for a new phone then you should at least have £200 for a computer....or know someone who has one or have access to one.

Strange. I have a (factory) unlocked phone here in the UK and I am on Vodaphone (who do seem to have released the update) and yet when I check for updates, I get nothing.

Because as far as Keis is concerned you are not on Voda (Unbranded phone). You will have to update manually......

Apprently it's not available OTA yet, only through Kies. You could also try updating Kies itself.

I wouldn't be surprised if some people never get the update, I know some SGS users still on 2.2. Hopefully won't be the case with GS2 devices as it should OTA compatible.
I would still take some time out to learn how to flash the phone manually, why wait for someone to do something when you can do it yourself.

As Rich Holder said, if your firmware is unbranded then you will not get an update from Vodafone. Could still be rolling out to certain areas for unlocked phones.

I got the 2.3.5 from my provider (T-Mobile), despite it not officially being released by them yet.

How can I check what is the current version my SGSII?
In Nokia we could find it by entering *#0000#, press enter.

Settings - About phone. If you scroll down you'll see Android version.
