Hi all,

I have found the forum through Google and had a quick look through the site. Looking to hang around for a bit.

My story is that I have recently bought a Galaxy S to replace my iPhone 3G. Thing is that I am not finding it that much better than the iPhone with speed. The delays when opening apps. the delays for the screen to show me a button just to answer a call. It's just frustrating .

Wondering whether or not to wait for the 2.2 update or, I have been reading abit about "root"ing the phone. Not sure whether or not it will be the best solution, but I would love to get rid of the all the Samsung garbage. I did find a nice tutorial for this but I cant find it again.

Any suggestions or advise on achieving this would be appreciated. I am on the verge of returning to my iPhone.

I felt the same for the first day or so. All I can say is just hang around here and read as much as you can. I'm super happy with mine now I've run the NAND fix and I'm about to try the SDCard fix as well which should blow my mind if the benchmarks I've seen here are anything to go on. Froyo will only make it better still so have a little patience, read up on the forums and the time spent will be so worth it. The thing is, we've had our Iphones for a long time and it's become second nature. Android is such a different animal and it takes a lot of tweaking and getting used to it to become satisfied. Now I'd never look back. Steve Jobs can kiss my #$%!!!

buzza24, this is the most comprehensive FAQ/info thread regarding flashing and rooting I have found: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596

Grab a cup of coffee and read through all of it. It's essential that you really understand what rooting and flashing is. But if you just take the time to learn about it, you have a lot to gain from rooting and flashing. It's also quite addictive, but that's a whole 'nother story... It certainly improves performance of the device, and enables you to get rid of the Samsung apps you don't want. Also you can customize the device so that it's exactly to YOUR liking.

The lag problem you experience is probably your applications have used up your memory in your phone. A lot of people coming from IPhone have the same habit which is closing applications by pushing the "Home" button. Android works very differently to IPhone. In order to close a program properly, you need to use the application's exit menu or by pressing the "Back" button. Pressing "Home" will only idle the program, not closing it.

There are tons of apps from the Android Market which allow you to keep track of the running programs, this will give you a good idea what is running at the background and allow you to close it. My favourite one is Advanced Task Killer.

Once you get use to the way Android operate, you shouldn't need to wait for the Froyo before you really enjoy the phone :)
