Quick heads up that a couple of kernels came out today with BLN support for those after that functionality. The Battista ROM is one of the custom ROMs with it, looks quite nice overall.

Superior option to NOLED.

For myself I will wait until a ROM I really like has kernel support, but it shouldn't be long now till most are utilising it.

I'll wait till lite'ning Rom 4.x supports it I think. Since there are so many Custom Roms now many which copy each other there will be BLN support all over the place. I'm on Litening 4.2, which I may stay with or switch when Insanity gets a bit more stable.

Lots of kernels now supporting BLN, I'm using Ninphetamine 2.0.5 on Battista ROM, working great. Tasker has a BLN plugin, which makes BLN support amazing. Also, because the stock SMS app doesn't work with these BLN kernels I installed Handcent SMS, froze stock messaging app with Titanium Backup and now my screen no longer wakes on SMS receipt, really nice bonus. Of course if you're wed to the stock messaging app you can use Tasker to make BLN work with it...

I'm using Lulz kernel with bln, there's a cwm zip you need to flash somewhere on xda, in the ninphetamine thread I think.

Does anyone know of any alternative to this in the meantime (until it's included in Litening ROM)? I remember there was an app for the SGS1 that put a small red dot on the screen when you had a message. I can't remember what it was called though.

Edit: Nevermind I found it - NO LED
