Found my wifi disconnects when phone not being used. Is there a setting which makes sure wifi connects automatically once set up ?

Does it automatically connect when you start using the phone again?
If it does, then this sounds like a good battery saving idea to me.

Yeah, under Wireless and network -> wifi settings go to advanced and wifi sleep policy and change to never
