How do I change the style of the lock screen from swiping the the picture to maybe something else, is it possible?

Download a lockscreen app from the market. I believe there is one called widget locker which is highly rated. Failing that, most custom ROMs have the option to change the style of the lockscreen within them :)

No need for an extra app, Go settings -> Location and security -> Screen unlock settings.
Ive got the swipe pattern at the moment.
