So, every day I contemplate more and more selling up and putting the profits towards an SGS II. From past experience and especially from those that have sold before, does customising your phone increase its market value? Are people more inclined to pay extra for a phone that supposedly runs better than in would out of the box?

Thoughts? Let me know!

(Also let me know if you know of a cheap place to pick up an SGS II ;) )

My own personal opinion is no it doesn't. If I were buying a phone, I would choose one thar hasn't been messed around with, that's something I like to do myself. I wouldn't buy a used phone anyway but if I did go down that route, I would want it completely stock out of box condition.

Sim unlocking does increase the value slightly because the buyer wont be restricted to a particular network.

This is just my own personal opinion of course.

I always sell my old phones on Ebay.

I make a point of making sure that they are unlocked, unbranded, factory reset (and formatted) and have the latest UK version of the firmware available - rather than an operator version.
I also make this very clear in my add.

Can only tell you that my phones have always sold for more than similar ones on the same day, so my experience is that there is usually people willing to pay more, knowing that its upto date and future firmware updates wont be dependant on the networks - as well as being able to put in any sim card they chose, straight away.

I would stress that custom roms might not be such a good move tho, but at the end of the day - its obviously your choice ;-)

I will echo the sentiments above.

I would buy a phone that's unlocked and updated to the latest official firmware, nothing else. If it says custom or modded then I wouldn't be interested.

I'm with the above, apart from the latest official firmware, but that's me and depends on my research:)

Also if it said modded or custom firmware I'd give it a miss unless I think its a great bargain (Much much cheaper than others):)
