On SGSII 2.3.3 in "Settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile networks -> Data roaming" one can turn of data usage while the phone is roaming. I cannot find many posts/articles that would say whether this switch does its job or not. I have SGSII for some weeks and I have the "Data roaming" set to off. Recently I roamed into a foreign net, the 3G/H connection icon is not shown, I see the R GSM icon (roaming). However my call meter app (Call meter 3G) says that some data was transferred while in roaming. I cannot confirm this yet as I do not have the latest bill from my carrier yet.
Is the "Data roaming" switch reliable? Does it do it's job? (Or can the apps circumvent this?)
Is there a "proper/guaranteed/tested" way to disable data roaming while still having packet data turned on (to enable MMS service which also uses packet data)? I know of APNDroid, is it reliable?
Or is the only guaranteed option to turn off packet data completely?
