My Smasung Galaxy S shipped with XXXJF1 firmware. I followed Soraxd guide to rooting your phone to XJF5. Unfortuantely this did not take on my phone. I suspect this was to do with the level of my firmware. There were no ill effects from the failed upgrade, and it appeared to eb a successfull upgrade until I checked the firmware level again and it had not changed.

I bought my phone from O2 in the UK, and unlike everyone elses phone in the UK it did not ship with XXXJF3.

Is there an upgrade path for XXXJF1??

Oh and Kies tell me that there is no upgrade to be had, when I connect through my PC.

Any help would be appreciated

Your phone should flash just fine.
I don't think the current firmware version matters when flashing to a new one.
Have you tried I9000XWJG5? It's the newest firmware.

Kies won't be any help until the Froyo update arrives.

Hi, I just flash my O2 Samsung from JF1 to JG5, took three attempts, but at the end it worked. I had to point to PIT, PDA and CSC files in Odin. Remember to run it as administrator in W7/Vista.
As far as I can tell everything works OK, but I will be more shure tomorrow.
