Hey,

I love the phone, but the battery is a real downer.

When reading the reviews a couple of them said how impressed they were with the battery life and easily getting two days, which was one of the key reasons I decided on purchasing it. But with average to heavy usage, I can't even get 5 hours out of it. It is basically pointless playing a game on it if you are not at home with the charger nearby. I've taken all the advice about how to save battery, but even still I barely get a day out of it.

I thought initially there may be a problem with the battery I got with the phone and called Samsung, who said I should be getting more time out of it, so they sent me a new battery. But the new one seems to be the same. Also, from reading other posts, it seems to be a common problem.

Or is it? Does anyone get 2 days or more with average use of the web browser, music player and a few calls?

Also, does anyone know if this may be a software issue that maybe be fixed with future firmware upgrades? I really do hope so, as it is a fantastic phone. I want to be able to use it while I am out without being paranoid about running out of battery!

Thanks

2 days moderate use easy yea.To be honest i tend to charge every night as i tend to use a lot.In 10 hours when im in bed i lose about 9% batery in stand by(would be less if i turned 3g off but cant be bothered) Using web is a batery killer because the screens on non stop but music player and calls it seems to just go on for ever

How old is your battery?
My battery life was bad when I first got the phone, it would take ages to charge, and would run dry in a few hours. But after a week or so, my battery life started getting better and better. And now I can easily get 2 days out of it, with normal use.
And which firmware are you on? Mine came with XXJF3, but I get better battery life with my current XWJG5.

Agreed. My phone when I first got it had garbage battery life. A week into it, I got 2 days life out of it. I'm surprised Samsung replaced your battery. They should have known it would get better with age

By flashing the new firmware to the phone as explained here: http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/91-Tutorial-How-to-debrand-and-flash-newer-firmware-to-your-Galaxy-S?highlight=flash+odin3
It's XWJG5 by the way, but it has support for all languages.

Well - you convinced me, so I just did it. Hope it will improve battery life, as it was quite a fight :)

First attempt: after pressing start in Odin it went as far as <ID:0/006> factoryfs.rfs and the phone just switch off. Cannnot start it anymore in normal mode.
Second attempt: flash OK, then after reset phone came with all sorts of errors and froze, but one of the line mention csc so:
Third attempt: added JG4 CSC, flash OK, phone does start - HURRAY! :)

Windows 7 32 bit

Will see about battery - with my old JF1 firmware, disabled 3G etc. after 8 hours of standby 19% of charge was used.

3G is a killer, better off not using it. Wifi Performance is better and uses less power.
