: Samsung Galaxy S II stuck in flight mode ... unable to connect to SIM card?
johnno000 05-24-2011, 10:15 AM After turning my phone on after leaving it off for the day I am unable to connect to my Network Provider (Displays "No Service). When I look at my options it displays "Flight Mode On" under the power button options. I turn this off but it still shows Flight Mode selected under my Network Settings? Can anyone recommend a solution other then a factory reset?
Goots 05-24-2011, 12:54 PM Have you tried it with a different SIM card?
It might be that the SIM itself is faulty, and the phone defaults to flight mode if it can't register with a service provider. <-- That's a guess by the way.
johnno000 05-24-2011, 09:11 PM I will try and replace the SIM Card this weekend ... however I did try my current SIM on another phone and it connected straight away? Re-inserted back into my S2 and still have the same error.
sleeco 05-25-2011, 05:18 PM Try a soft reset(battery out for 5mins) failing that a factory reset may fix it.
galaxys2 07-24-2011, 07:08 PM Hi,
i have a similar problem. my s2 is stuck in flight mode. unable to connect to mobile network.
any solution for this issue from samsung.
?????
Zippyelise 07-25-2011, 07:10 AM I have this problem too. It spontaneously reverts to flight mode, though the symbol that replaces the signal bar is a 'stop' sign (circle with a diagonal line through it). It disables 3G and leads you to settings where flight mode is ticked and in mobile browsing packet data is turned off. If you change them they just revert back when you exit.
Extremely annoying, I've only had the thing a week, it's great apart from this problem.
I've done a factory restore and it's failed to sort the problem out
I'm with Orange, what network are others using with this problem?
mark22 07-25-2011, 11:49 AM Early firmwares had some issues with orange sim cards. Updating and maybe debranding (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278) to get the latest (KG2)bfirmware may be the way forward.
galaxys2 07-25-2011, 12:05 PM I made a factory restore and installed the latest firmware via kies.
now the problem is gone.
but got a new problem.
i am unable to use power button to lock the screen. when i click the power button (short cut for screen lock), it opens the phone options.
i have already enable the screen pattern. it works fine but the short cut doesnt work.
its annoying . pls helpppp
I was able to fix it by turning my phone off, turning it back on then holding the power button for about a second to bring up the phone options window and turning off flight mode there. Worked for me and hope it works for you. Good luck.
glynnd 08-03-2011, 11:05 AM same problem as u all ony im on o2, tried taking sim & battery out for 5 mins. no joy. cant find a link anywhere to organise a repair for o2. can anyone help me with the link
nigels2 08-08-2011, 09:45 AM This started happening to me as of last night. Firstly got the O with the line through it to indicate no service, then I tried to put it into flight mode and out again to make it reconnect, but was unable to take it out of flight mode and stuck ever since. Sometimes it does get stuck but a reboot solves it, but not this time. SIM works in another phone, leaving overnight with battery out didn't work. Someone indicated a reset to facory settings worked and firmware upgrade but introduced another problem, so I'm not sure what to do. Has anyone solved this problem properly? Thanks!
Windhover041 11-20-2011, 03:45 PM I am experiencing the same issue of the the handset switching for no apparent reason from3G / HSPA to Flight mode on my Galaxy S2. I am of the opinion it is the SIM card. I have taken the SIM card from my Blackberry and inserted it into the Galaxy handset and the problem continues to persist.
Very frustrating and if I can't get it fixed I will have to return both the handset AND my Samsung Tablet. Really dissapointed as I believed in Android and now will have to eat humble pie with my son who says iPhone rules and Apple products are far superior.
This issue is well documented but there are no apparent fixes.
Any suggestions

Had a problem with my S11 locked up after attemt to upgrade firmware with Kies. Took it to my local O2 spoke to inhouse guru. He attempted a fix then booked it in and sent it off for repair. They will lend you a phone while it's gone.
harleyNoob 12-14-2011, 10:32 PM Folks,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S II, GT-I9100, running 2.3.3 stock India distribution. Ran beyootifully till 2 months later I tried using "AllShare" to connect and stream pictures, vid, music to a Samsung TV (might be totally coincidental and not the cause) but after that, the phone has been stuck in Flight Mode and when I go to the about Phone menu under the Settings menu, I see that it's unable to read the IMEI . I then tried everything possible
* factory reset
* installed newer stock firmware
* INstalled the stock 2.3.3 India firmware (xda developers forum)
* tried installing the radio package so it would re-read the file that has the IMEI information
All to NO avail !!!! HELP !!!
I also read that reflashing the modem may fix this issue. Any idea how I'd do that ?
deninfnq 12-22-2011, 07:40 PM Had same problem after got off a flight. Stuck in Flight Mode. The only thing that worked after trying all the tricks was a hard reset. Link on how to do this is at
http://www.hard-reset.com/samsung-i9100-galaxy-s2-hard-reset.html (http://www.hard-reset.com/samsung-i9100-galaxy-s2-hard-reset.html)
Jmimik 03-23-2012, 11:26 PM Dear Friends,
I have faced this problem myself. After googling and reading a lot hints on how to turn off flight mode on Samsung Galaxy S2, the decision came itself like apple fell down on Newton's head. So, how to turn off flight mode, when you press on power button which gives an option of putting phone on flight mode, just press this icon, I mean flight mode and hold for some seconds, it automatically will give you another option to change to normal mode.
I hope my explanation is simple and clear. If no, feel free to pm.
Sincerely,
J.

greenman 07-14-2012, 12:43 PM You are describing 'no network link' and should also be experiencing no phone use.
Check in Settings > wireless and network ...More > Mobile networks > Access Point Names (APN) that you have your network name + payment plan (PAYG or contract) and there is a green dot next to it.
If all there, either your network is down (O2 have had problems over last week in UK) or you are in an area of poor reception.
Alternatively turn off your phone.
remove battery and leave for 10 minutes.
In meantime check your sim holder is clean.
Replace battery and reboot to get a clean network link.
misbah 07-14-2012, 12:56 PM When i go to mobile network it says insert sim card and activate... but the sim card is inserted....and wen i try using the sim card on.another phone it works.....how do u reboot?
greenman 07-14-2012, 01:04 PM It sounds like your phone hasn't got its APN settings.
These normally come via a text from your network provider.
Which one are you with?
Reboot is simply turning off your phone and turning back on again.
misbah 07-16-2012, 09:30 AM I stay in africa malawi and i use an airtel sim
and i have already tried rebooting my phone
wat shud i do now
greenman 07-16-2012, 11:30 AM When you have your sim card in the phone , you should get a network signal.
What you have described is a phone not recognising the sim card.
Try a factory reset and start again.
You can find Factory reset in your Settings, but it will remove your Contacts and apps and other data so backup first.
greenman 07-16-2012, 11:47 AM Factory reset and try again.
You can do this from your Settings, but it will remove contacts, apps and data so back up first.

FouziaShahzad 05-14-2013, 06:17 PM Hey I am experiencing this problem for last few days..I thought it was because of FB app..but I've tried uninstalling it but its still there..! :(
The problem is that all of a sudden, while using the mobile...it gets stuck and there is STOP sign at the network place and I am unable even to turn the screen off. Then I have to remove the battery and then re-insert it and then it shows low battery.
This has happened almost like 4 times and I am really worried. Please help me out here if you have a solution!
Thanks alot !
