: MTP app keeps closing/opening/closing/opening......

Out of the blue, I have another connection problem even though nothing has changed since yesterday when everything was working ok

When I connect to the pc using usb, I select the Kies option.
The MTP app starts, then closes to the idle screen, then starts again, then closes.............and so on.

Even connecting as a mass storage device no longer works. It looks like i am mounting the disk, but Windows does not let me explore the drive saying I need to insert media.

Has anyone else had this? Got an explanation/solution?

Cheers.

Same issue for me. Here: http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/443-MTF-Sync-flashing-between-homescreen-and-sync-screen?highlight=Sibben

I reinstalled the drivers and now mass storage works. Kies connection will still flicker like you describe. My phone is rooted btw.

Mine is rooted also and have applied the NAND update.
Beginning to think it was a waste of time.
Restoring the phone to factory settings does not solve this issue
I do get mass storage now so that's a start, but I need Kies for updating to 2.2 don't I?

I had this problem too when I flashed to the JF5 firmware (which as a side issue comes up as JFB ??). If you unmount the internal SD card, format it and then reboot the phone mine sync'd with Kies in seconds. Sorry if this is posted anywhere else !!

Thanks for that!
However, if I format the internal sd card and this doesn't work, what state would this formatted card leave my phone in?

It won't do anything to your phone, other than to delete any data you have stored on the int sd.

Thanks guys.
I done this and it worked 1st time.
I still can't connect to Kies in that mode, but the app doesn't open and close each time.
I will get there eventually.

Thanks again.

JockyMc: Thanks for this tip. For others - I "mounted" the device (internal SD) on my Mac and dragged the contents over to Desktop. Then I disconnected and formatted the internal SD, then dragged everything back.

I wonder... whether formatting the internal SD has undone RyanZA One-Click Lag Fix? Maybe that was the problem? It uses a different filesystem to overcome SGS screen lag.

Another issue...
Though the opening/closing issue has gone and the phone connects to Kies, Kies returns: "The phone is in use. Disconnect the phone and try again."
Page http://alexsleat.co.uk/2010/11/04/samsung-galaxy-s-the-device-is-in-use-stop-using-the-device-then-try-again/ says THAT IS due to the One-Click Lag Fix, which can be undone from that app (change the file system back to original type). When that's undone, Kies will connect properly.

Closing/opening occurs when MTP application comes against a file with unknown extension, so it starts scanning the phone again and again. The only way to get rid of this is to find that file or - most likely - do a factory reset and formatting internal and external SD..
