hi all,

after reading this forum for a couple of days i noticed that some people were talking about an app called "Quadrant" which gives you a set of benchmarks to show the performance rating of your phone compared to other phones.

out of curiosity i downloaded it and after running the tests i noticed there was an option called "system information" so i clicked on it. whilst reading thru it i got to a section which gave me info on the CPU and it was here that i noticed it says "Cores: 1"

Only one core?? i could have sworn that the galaxy s2 had 2 cores (its a dual core phone so i assume it should be 2! lol)

am i being a bit dumb, is the Quadrant info incorrect or do i have a lower spec phone than what is advertised??

here is a screen grab from my phone:-

The quadrant info is wrong, probably hasn't been a new release to deal with dual core phones yet.

Its a quadrant problem, definitely dual core.

Scott,
I noticed this also and did same as you and panicked thinking I was duped :P I then did the test again and second time around it showed 2 cores, I have had varying results from it from 3.5k to under 2k and freq. up to 500Mhz, it mainly shows 1 core though, the phone is awesome though and is nowhere near being used to its full potential by me, so even if it was single core I think I would still be happy.

Okay, I know it's dual core, but from a terminal
cat /proc/cpuinfo
only mentions one :P

The Galaxy S II contains the ARM Cortex A9 chip, although the reason it says ARM v7 is because the Cortex A9 contains ARM v7 instructions set architecture. It can be anything from 1 - 4 cores and 800mhz to 2ghz. The thing is that the Galaxy S II uses the 1.2ghz 2 Core implementation.Due to the nature of the Cortex A9 it is able to fluctuate its frequency dependant on what is required from it (hence why you are able to see a 200mhz frequency sometimes)

This ARM Cortex A9 is the system on chip for the Exynos 4210. There are many other things that uses this processor including the new iPad 2. In that instance Apple chose to go with the 1ghz 2 core implementation with the system on chip Apple A5.
