: Sync Outlook with S2??
rabbitmumu 05-10-2011, 10:47 AM Hello all, after years of using iphone, I am so pleased that I have got this Android phone. But I haven't got a clue what to do with this Android system and would appreciate some help.
I am trying to sync my outlook 2003 with the phone (mainly contacts and calendar and tasks if possible), whereas email I can set it up via pop/ imap. I am using Kies but can't import any contacts from the PC like the iphone did. Basically Kies can't even detect the phone .. just "connecting" for ages...
Please help and any advice would be highly appreciated. Many many thanks
tiptronic 05-10-2011, 11:54 AM Basically Kies can't even detect the phone .. just "connecting" for ages...If you look at the Kies installed directory, there is a folder call "USB Driver". Inside there is a file "SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe". Run that should install the correct driver for your SGSII. If your phone still cannot connect after that, try reboot both your machine and phone.
rabbitmumu 05-18-2011, 03:55 PM Hi.. thanks for your help. I think I figured out the problem...
Basically Kies doesn't like Avira Anti-vrius (possibly some other anti-virus or firewall) but once I disabled it, I can connect Kies to my phone.
However, I still cannot sync Outlook 2003 via Kies... so I phoned Samsung and they (probably read from their notes) saying that Kies only work with Outlook 2007. As far as I can see from other Android users, they can use 2003 too so I don't know what's what. But this Kies has taken me more than 4 hours and I don't like the idea of sync all my contacts via google then to phone... so a simple last resort was to use this app called "My Phone Explorer" .. neat and simple.
I hope it's safe and secure using an app like this(?!) I connect my phone via wifi and everything works perfectly. The only downside of this (which is a known issue) is that they don't sync outlook task list... other than that everything runs smoothly and I don't need to risk trying to get a copy of 2007... Now I only use Kies for the recent firmware upgrade and to sync some of those settings stuff/ music etc.
Piotr Petrovka 07-05-2011, 06:54 AM The Outlook Sync just does not work with Kies (the USB connection works well, thanks). There is a message about "an error which happens during the preparation of the synchronisation and stops the sync process". At present, it seems a general and terrible problem. Then, a great number of paying solutions are available on the Internet. Also, uploading the contacts to Gmail is possible (I had to do it) but raises questions about privacy. Question (1): Is it a temporary situation and Samsung will come with a solution in the near future? Question (2): If it is not Kies what could it be? Thks & Regrds. Piotr
keep fit 07-16-2011, 09:54 AM Hi, I had the same problem.
I have a solution!
you need to ignore kies.
load your contacts and calendar info from outlook onto google.
to do this you need to save your info in csv format (comma separated values)
if you need help with this google has info on their site
once your contacts and calender info has been uploaded onto google you need to sync your phone with google
(under settings, under sync)
i havent gotten further than that but i think that google is the master and the phone and the computer (outlook) are the slaves.
good luck
stitch-up 07-19-2011, 10:29 AM Wish I'd stuck with the Blackberry Storm 2 as far as syncing with Outlook goes - it worked!
I can't even connect my SGS2 to my computer, I get an error Android MTP Failed! This is on my Windows 7 PC. So I thought I'd try it on my Windows 7 notebook = same error! So finaly, I tried it on my Windows 7 based slate, guess what = Android MTP Failed!

Tufftoad 07-19-2011, 06:38 PM Or in Kies mode?
ccc19155 08-14-2011, 03:41 PM I have tested quite a deal of programs that sync Outlook 2010 with my Galaxy S2
I found that the android-sync is the cheapest software that works very simpel to.It sync via usb-cable automatic if you want.
I could not find freeware yet, but it must come some time from Samsung :) -its a must have.
LisaUK 08-14-2011, 05:26 PM I'm not sure if this link is of any help, but it lists and gives links to IMAP settings for various supported clients to sync with Gmail, including Outlook 2003...

Do not use google, unless you do not care about your privacy, or the privacy of your contacts, if you use google they effectively own your contact information, read the T&Cs and beware!
biodrugs 09-11-2011, 01:55 PM I used GO Contact Sync Mod which is an open source tool to synchronize Microsoft Outlook contacts with Google Mail. Worked fine.
phadnis 10-24-2011, 01:32 PM Synchronizing contacts, calendars, photos, playlists and videos. These are the basic requirements for any smartphone today. I am extremely disappointed with the inability of Android/Galaxy S2 to provide a simple solution. The question i have is - why is it so complicated for such a basic need.
My photo albums are all over the place - my childhood photos get merged with my 2 month old son's. I have to buy a software isnycr to synchronize with iTunes. But isnycr doesn't sync photos.
Every time I try to sync my contacts and calenders with Kies - there is a surprise waiting for me. Sometimes the contacts get duplicated, or some of them get deleted without even asking me. Calenders get duplicate entries.
My wife has an iPhone. I used a blackberry before. I decided to go for S2 thinking it would be nice. Big mistake!
tonygamble 10-24-2011, 01:36 PM I think I may have cracked it.
I did what this guy suggests:-
http://www.pubarticles.com/...ndroid-mtp-on-gala-samsungxy-s2-1310023022.html
When you do that it seems to add more drivers than before - and I think I removed all the old ones before following those six steps.
It still did not work perfectly until I turned off the Power Saving tick on the G2 and I probably also unlocked the phone before putting it on the caddy.
I think its pretty important to get Keis running before you finally connect the G2 and it may take a bit of time before the PC connect fully.
Now my device manager shows it has GT-I9100 in the portable devices - previously it was showing something to do with MTP.
Now, each time I put the phone on the caddy unlocked it connects with Keis.
Have fun.
Tony
Jejoma 10-25-2011, 08:25 AM I use gSyncit to sync multiple computers and my phone. It's not cheap but it works, giving a full sync with Outlook via Google as the central hub.
harps221 12-01-2011, 12:24 PM Just switched from iPhone to Samsung Galaxy have had a few issues which had me cursing samsung i.e. how to improve battery life and sync up to outlook, which are very important to me building websites is my trade so I should be alble to work this out lol
After an hour actually sitting down and working it out I was a bit premature you just need to learn how, now I am impressed by the samsung :-)
Anyway after looking for help in forums on how to sync outlook on my pc without having to download third party software like companionlink or pay anything for what I expect to be functionality that should be provided as standard I found all the imformation was pretty poor.
My approach: Forget opening kies on your phone and trying to sync to outlook - download it from the samsung website and install it on your pc. Connect your phone via cable or wireless (I did it through cable, as I feel this would be faster and more stable). Kies then picks up your phone (if it doesnt dicsonnect close kies and try again). After connecting the phone I just clicked the sync tab at the top and selected sync outlook and selected
contacts, schedules(calendars) and memos and it was simple and took less than a minute for around 200 contacts.
There are a number of other usefull features here too backing up your phone and ability to sync music and photos.
Another samsung peice of software which is free which you may also want to try is new pc studio... i didn't try this but didnt need to.
I think a lot of simple tasks can be worked out if well you got half hour and patience to work it out - well thats my case. Anyway need anyhelp give me a shout at lemonhead70 (at) hotmail.com - will try and help where I can.
Thanks
tonygamble 12-01-2011, 03:33 PM Harps,
I think the Keis system is more effective with the new downloads of both Keis and the S2 software.
Partly shown by the reduction of calls for help.

stjelja.rok 12-02-2011, 05:32 PM Hi All,
can I snync somehow calendar, notes and taks from outlook 2010 to my Galaxy S2???
tonygamble 12-02-2011, 10:15 PM Yes you can !!
stjelja.rok 12-03-2011, 10:34 AM heheh, thank's ... but how??? :)
tonygamble 12-03-2011, 11:30 AM How?
Use Keis.
Come back when you have installed and inspected it. Only then will you know whether it syncs the bits of Outlook you want.

Roger99 12-03-2011, 05:21 PM New user here.
I downloaded Kies to my desktop (Win7 64bit).
Ran it and connected the S2. Kies promptly updated the S2 from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4
Then I told it to send my Outlook contacts and Calendar to the S2.
It worked straight off, no problems.
Kies worked fine for me.
DiamondJones 12-04-2011, 11:51 PM No, you can't sync Outlook Tasks
Calender syncing is haphazard at best. Don't rely on it without checking which events it has chosen to delete
Hi All,
can I snync somehow calendar, notes and taks from outlook 2010 to my Galaxy S2???
Jejoma 12-05-2011, 09:06 AM No, Kies doesn't sync Outlook Tasks. Apologies for repeating myself by you'll need to pay for gSyncit or something similar for that.
Edit: This goes on your PC plus you'll need something like Astrid Tasks on your mobile.
jacksonwalt 12-21-2011, 12:21 PM I think you have to download applications for outlook you can find them on Samsung Galaxy S2 android (http://www.androidapps4u.com/news/tehnology/tech-news/samsung-nexus-prime-vs-samsung-galaxy-s2-lte/)supporting websites.
JUS CRU-ZN 12-28-2011, 03:11 PM Hello all :-)
So I'm new to Android n SGS2. Been trying in many Kama Sutra'ish means but seems none of the above methods seem to work for me. Kies does not update sw to. 4. And I fear gmail privacy issues. Myphoneexplorer doesnt upload frm my blackberry- error msg indicates tht it works with Sony Ericsson only!
Any help will truly be appreciated.
S2 only launched in south africa recently.
Tx in advance

I downloaded and installed Kies. Outlook 2007 Calendar seems to sync without any problem. However, I tried to sync the Contacts 4 times without success. It hung somewhere near the 90% mark. I have about 1200 records in Contacts. Now, I have 2000 records. Some records duplicated itself 3 times! Any suggestion? Sync to Google is not an option for me.
amsyh 03-12-2012, 08:02 AM I need a reliable sync software to sync outlook contacts, calendar, notes and tasks with the smgs2 phone. When I had the Blackberry handset, Desktop manager did this sync smoothly and without errors. Samsung: work harder!! This is a major issue for many users of Galaxy S2 and Note.
Thank you all!!!
xiaofeige 03-13-2012, 07:10 AM I am using mobisynapse (http://www.mobisynapse.com).It works fine for me.
integrateis 03-22-2012, 02:26 PM There is a great free app (MyPhoneExplorer) that you could use to sync Outlook, backup and many other functions for free. Samsung Galaxy S2: How to Sync Outlook Contacts and Calendars (http://www.itjungles.com/android-tips/samsung-galaxy-s2-how-to-sync-outlook-contacts-and-calendars)
evansash 04-09-2012, 07:51 AM When i did 1st sync with outlook 2007 many of my contact addresses had all but the first line of the address removed. Could not then connect until latest firmware upgrade. now warnes more than 50% of my contacts will be deleted if i sync. Samsung technician says he is not suprised at corruption as i have 2400 contacts and that is too many to sync in one go. He advised breaking down the contacts sync into groups - eg a-c, d-f and so on. I have not tried this yet as cannot figure out how to do it! Anyone else tried this?
