Has anyone tried this - I keep getting "Not enough memory" failures.

I've done it but wondered why it was needed as the SGS has never needed it for me (seems to have plenty of space). My poor friends with an HTC desire have to move everything to SD or they can't load any apps. Very bad design flaw of the HTC desire.

I agree. I don't have anything moved, have far too many apps installed and still have only filled half the space available.

I have the same question as ngwagwa. Why can't I move my Apps to SD Card. I get a similar failure message ("Failed to move application. Not enough memory") when I try to move Apps to SD card.

And there is enough space on my internal USB storage.
