Slenders101 04-16-2011, 08:52 PM can whoever has it tell me what is new like does it have touchwiz 4.0??
stonkr 04-16-2011, 08:53 PM I'm going to upgrade via Kies as I've found Kies utterly reliable so far.
Wake me when the crying stops.
can whoever has it tell me what is new like does it have touchwiz 4.0??
I dont have it, but i can tell you it defiantly doesnt have TW4 dude. Galaxy S2 only...for the moment ;-)
Darky said if it doesnt come out, he will be porting it to the Galaxy S, as im sure others will.
itsnoiphone 04-16-2011, 08:59 PM I have IT but am still waiting for gingerbread.
ByTheSea 04-16-2011, 09:04 PM I am running version 2.0.0.11032_12 - have attached the Kies info page showing gingerbread firmware - impressed so far.

itsnoiphone 04-16-2011, 09:16 PM What is xee?
update 2.2 04-16-2011, 09:21 PM Not showing up via Kies air or via the settings update on the phone. Does it have to be wired anyone??
drreality 04-16-2011, 09:22 PM any luck for the folks in uk ?
ByTheSea 04-16-2011, 09:29 PM I am in the UK with a unbranded GT-I9000 and have updated - see above. Think Kies only lets you upgrade via USB.
update 2.2 04-16-2011, 09:30 PM I am in the UK with a unbranded GT-I9000 and have upgraded - see above.
Defo need to find my usb then.
stonkr 04-16-2011, 09:46 PM What is xee?
XEE - Nordic (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden)
itsnoiphone 04-16-2011, 09:49 PM Thanks stonkr that explains it. Thought it was going to be that.
update 2.2 04-16-2011, 09:53 PM No luck here as of yet.
itsnoiphone 04-16-2011, 09:54 PM So then bythesea you dont have a UK upgrade.
And i suspect nobody does.
Im sure the Nordic countries got Froyo long before the Uk.
stonkr 04-16-2011, 10:10 PM XEE, everything about you is XEE.
Come on, everybody join in the Liberty X Nordic beat.
Booyakasha!
ByTheSea 04-16-2011, 10:18 PM I did use the kies registry trick to get froyo early, sorry for building peoples hopes up! I can tell you that everything is so much faster with gingerbread. Almost like a new phone!
ancient geek 04-16-2011, 10:19 PM Hey stonkr,
can i have some of whatever you're on... :-D
itsnoiphone 04-16-2011, 10:21 PM Hey stonkr,

Go on then. Rub it in why don't you. :)
dk206 04-16-2011, 11:33 PM C'mon U.K!!!! IT should be out by now!
Strange. Usually XEU is one of the fastest for official i9000 upgrades. Weird.
I'm DYING HEREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEE
ARGHHHHHHHHH :O
topgunner 04-17-2011, 12:43 AM So can we use the Kies Registry trick to get Gingerbread?
ByTheSea 04-17-2011, 07:16 AM Kies obviusly still thinks my phone is Nordic! - think they stopped the registry trick working with later versions of Kies. Surely it can't be long till the XEU release.
topgunner 04-17-2011, 01:31 PM Mabye next week for XEU who knows
Shadeofheave 04-17-2011, 01:50 PM Greetings guys, any chance someone might be able to give me a step-by-step tutorial on how to update my phone? It would be greatly appreciated. I am currently running the latest version of Kies and it reads "This version of the device cannot be updated."
My current firmware version is "PDA:JP6/PHONE:JPM/CSC:JP4 (MTL). Whatever this is.
Standart SGS I9000.
Once more, any help is greatly appreciated ^_^

follow the intructions in the link. Can't go wrong with this.
After that, when gingerbread comes out you can update via Samsung Kies software to 2.3.3.
rehmondo 04-18-2011, 09:41 AM Hey, I'm pretty new to Android and Samsung, I got the Samsung Galaxy S Armani version a couple of weeks ago - no update for me - I thought it was the same spec as the Galaxy S?
Any info on updates to 2.3 for me, would be greatly appreciated.
nitz85 04-18-2011, 10:13 AM Did they pull back the update via Kies? I got offered upgrade yesterday, but today i have the latest firmware installed: PDA:JS7 / PHONE:JPY / CSC:JS1 (XEE)
Im in norway btw
Northern.dj 04-18-2011, 10:46 AM I'm a XEU Guy and Both us and Vodafone customers were offered the update this morning But they Have pulled it for some reason as its not available any more
dk206 04-18-2011, 10:54 AM no uk upgrade for me either
kies show that i am on
jpy jpy jpy(XEU)
looks like they pulled the JVK upgrade for U.K!!!
Wonder why...did they put out the (leaked in feb) JVK by accident? or is it meant to be the same one?
Northern.dj 04-18-2011, 11:53 AM I hope it isn't the same as my local service center hates it as it has Force close problems
itsnoiphone 04-18-2011, 02:08 PM Didn't they do the same with Froyo?
hash-brown 04-18-2011, 02:09 PM Afternoon gentlemen, can one of you clever chaps let me know if I have the correct pre-requisites as I have messed about on my phone in the past and not sure if it's on the correct firmwares:
I am a UK resident on O2: PDA: JPO/ PHONE: JPP / CSC:JPO
Thanks in advance
Hash-brown
andy-roid 04-19-2011, 03:05 PM Update pulled by google
http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/19/samsung-galaxy-s-gingerbread-update-pulled-by-google-coming-b/
im glad it has its crap against jpy 2.2.1
ianh5 04-19-2011, 04:32 PM This might be a dumb question but since upgrading via KIES to 2.2.1 I can no longer connect to KIES on two different machines. I have the latest version of KIES installed. How can I upgrade to 2.3 when it is finally available in the U.K. if I cannot connect? I do not want to go down the Odin route. Thanks
topgunner 04-19-2011, 06:52 PM Its coming in may now for O2 http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/samsung-galaxy-s-on-o2-updating-to-android-23-gingerbread-in-may-50003567/

Wonder if it's the said gaming bug is specific to the GS as why would Google hault it to just 'our' phone??
robertandrews 04-23-2011, 03:52 PM So, what if I installed the XEE/JEE version? (I'm a UK user of a debranded 2.2.1 I9000XXJPY 2.6.32.9 root@SEP-51 #1 FROYO.XFJS2). Wat marks out the Scandi version? Will Scandi languages be the only ones available?
If and when...
- How do I get this on my phone?
- Should I be concerned about moving to Android from any particular version as a prerequisite, or can I go from my current version?
- And how do I upgrade via Mac?
Thanks.
jojotjebaby 04-24-2011, 01:31 PM did google also stopped the updates for france ??

I would not recommend JVB XEE as I have flashed it on my phone, it had flaws. I am far happier on JPY over JVB.
If you're not Scandinavian then I would not recommend flashing the JEE version.
Moving to android? Be more concerned with taking step backs in firmware.
Use Heimdall, I think Mac prefers Heimdall over Odin.
Simon Bink 04-25-2011, 06:17 PM Not in the UK it isn't... :(
Google suspended updates... I'm not surprised by this at all. I must admit Google have been dangling the carrot for the last couple of months and now the rod has broken. Come on Google get your thumb out of your backside and release Gingerbread before Google decides to rename it to something else for the UK release.
Maybe they will rename it for the UK to Daerbregnig 2.3 hoping that the British will not notice the new name...?
What the heck am I talking about... I need a beer.
We are still waiting... we are at the bottom of the chain pool. :(
Ceejay 04-26-2011, 05:39 AM Well I'd prefer it if these phone companies gave you the option to run stock Android OS rather than having to wait till they tweak the OS to work with their own interfaces. TouchWiz is crap, I can live without it and we all could have had gingerbread ages ago if not for that tweaking process.

Thats a very old story though, I dont think this is the reason GB has been pulled for the SGS.
I was reading here in Japan that Samsung has been reluctant to provide a GB update to SGS because it would effect sales for newer phones.

So true - I would have pre-order/bought the S2 already but don't have the funds until I sell my iPhone 4.
patcracking 04-28-2011, 01:10 AM will updating firmware via KIES will erase all data and installed apps? others say that nothing was erased even after upgrading.
Doomed 04-28-2011, 02:44 AM will updating firmware via KIES will erase all data and installed apps? others say that nothing was erased even after upgrading.
I believe kies keeps all your settings and apps, but its best to root your phone and use titanium backup to save your apps (I think there maybe a backup manager that can back up unprotected apps without root) then do a factory reset after updating to clear the un-wanted old data which may cause you problems:)
davidjjackson 04-28-2011, 11:42 AM seems as though it has not reached turkey yet.
Fox69 04-28-2011, 08:52 PM Not out in UK either...
topgunner 04-29-2011, 03:13 PM If you really want if you could go into CPW and get them to update the firmware. My SGS died due to software and when I got it back it had 2.3.3 on it. Might be worth a shot.
