Yeah, do you mean online streaming? If that what you are looking for I am afraid Soraxd is right, Youtube is it for now (until Froyo and Flash 10.1). Now I dont remember how my SGS was out of the box but with Modaco's RC2 I actually had to go into the browser settings and turn on Plug-ins in order to be able to see Youtube videos on the browser, other wise I just would get a white space where the Youtube video would originally be. Let us know how it goes.

AFAIK you will have to wait as I said until Froyo comes to the SGS which, rumor has it, is going to be soon...

That's right. Wait for Froyo (Android 2.2) and you'll have that feature, for now, you'll have to give the BBC a miss on your phone.

Ohhh brilliant Soraxd!! I am sorry, I forgot all about Skyfire. I have tried it in the past and it really does work for many websites. I hope it works for BBC. Unfortunately I live in Canada and cannot test it.

I can't test it either as BBC IPlayer is not available for your country error :(

you can switch then back and forth at any time, check the settings of any browser, i have 4 currently, and use dolphin HD as my default.
skyfire rocks tho, and its the best fix for not having 10.1 until froyo update.

BBC has upgraded their website and videos using latest Flash, that is why all Android 2.1 phone not be able to watch.

Source from here (http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcinternet/2010/07/bbc_iplayer_on_android_update.html)

Why has the BBC replaced beebPlayer with something that only works on newer devices and requires Flash?

Using Adobe Flash 10.1 streaming on mobile delivers significant infrastructure efficiencies for the BBC, as we use our existing video and audio encoding plant to create the streams. We don't need to install any new kit or set up any new servers. We just use what we already have to offer a higher quality BBC iPlayer on mobile experience.

Enabling Flash on Android 2.2 devices also means that all current and new devices that support Android 2.2 can get BBC iPlayer. These devices all use the same standard Flash player which means we can offer a consistently high quality playback across all of them. Previously we had to review and test BBC iPlayer on a device-by-device basis to ensure the right high quality experience. Now we can offer BBC iPlayer on mobile to a whole group of devices at once, which is clearly much more efficient.

Why haven't we enabled BBC iPlayer on mobile on any other Android phones apart from Android version 2.2?

BBC iPlayer on mobile's reach objectives mean we have had to prioritise other devices that offer the BBC wider reach over current Android phones.

The best way to bring BBC iPlayer to earlier versions of Android (which don't support Flash), is to develop an app. This would provide a single scalable version that could be offered to all Android phones.

Alternatively you can use Beepplayer (discountinued from market) from MCR or download here (http://myhtcdesire.com/2010/05) (#6 - BeepPlayer)

How do you switch browsers and which one is the fastest

soraxd
07-15-2010, 07:44 PM
the default or Dolphin HD, are both really good, Dolphin HD has alot of features, and supports add ons. you switch them in the settings of which ever browser you want to use as your default.

If you're on T-Mobile UK, they've blocked BBC streaming on their network. You can pick it up on wifi, though.

Are you looking to use non stock browser as the default or what are the settings you are looking to change?

go to your home screen, (any of the 7 homescreens) and press the hard menu button (left button of the 3 at the bottom of the phone), hit "Search" and type in "browser" then hit search, itll prompt you to pick one of your browsers as a default browser, check the "Use by default for this action." and then click your browser

1. Intall from the Android Market any alternative browser, could be Skyfire, Dolphin HD, Opera Mini 5, whichever you prefer. Remember that Skyfire is the one that can play Flash videos.
2. On the dock (the lower-most bottom row of icon on your screen if your are at HOME) hit the the icon all the way to the right ( a blue square with four small white squares inside).
3. You will see all the apps you have installed if I am not mistaken in alphabetic order, so if you installed Skyfire for example it will probably be on your last page (you can swipe pages side to side). Press the Skyfire icon (or any other browser you installed).
4. As soon as your SGS starts loading the browser you will get a small pop up windows showing you that you have more that one browser installed, and asking you to select which app would you like to use to surf the web. Notice that on the lower part of the window there is a small box that you can tick if you want to use such choice as your default browser every time you want to surf the web. So just select the new browser tick the box to make it you default browser and you are done.

I can not test it since I am not in the UK but I knoe that Skyfire does NOT play all flash content, some for copyright issues and some for technical issues.

Last I checked there was a very impressive BBC iPlayer app. Can't seem to find it now.
