having a expensive nightmare....when I try to type a message in text in last 60 letters then does 3 page max then automatically converts to a MMS thats only 180 letters surely that aint right?

Anyone know how I can stop this from happening?

go into text messaging, hit settings, and check 'creation mode' set it to 'free'

just to be on the safe side first try sora's suggestion and then go again to messaging->settings->input method-> choose GSM alphabet and you're done ;)

Found mine did this too today. Tried both your methods, still converted to mms :S

You can use Handcent: http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/communication/handcent-sms_flg.html

I haven't tried it myself, but I heard you can turn the automatic conversion off using that.

I also heard that once we have 2.2 Froyo, we won't have to deal with this SMS to MMS issue anymore.
