: This is what Samsung have been up to!
Tufftoad 12-26-2010, 10:21 PM Samsung have been further developing their AMOLED range of displays. The link below is about 5 weeks old, the screens look damn cool, check out the link ---> Here (http://getandroidstuff.com/samsung-flexible-transparent-amoled-display-showed-fpd-2010/)

soraxd 12-27-2010, 12:59 AM The Following User Says Thank You to Tufftoad For This Useful Post:
soraxd (Today)
THANKYOU FOR THE MOST USEFUL POST EVER CREATED ON THIS WHOLE FORUM
even tho theyve had this for years, i wonder why theyre starting to show this now, I WONDER IF THE FUTURE IS FINALLY HERE
Tufftoad 12-27-2010, 04:07 PM Erm...that's cool :?
I like where the development is going, can see slightly curved mobile screens and transparent amoleds working their way in to the market.
Tufftoad 08-12-2011, 07:13 AM Right, thought I would have another check as to what Samsung have been doing. My initial post regarding the flexible screens and the clear displays was released around Nov 10, which are appearing in concepts designs in my other thread (Future Designs (http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/4066-Mobile-or-Handheld-Units-Future-Designs)).
The curved screens are only about 7mm thick.
In Jan 11 Samsung showcased their display at CES 2011, here's a snippet:

Samsung Mobile Display, which has already been mucking about with a flexible display at CES, holds a huge 98.3 percent share of the AMOLED market. But with the Hitachi, Toshiba and Sony merger rumoured to be on the cards, Samsung's place in mobile display overall will face stiff competition.
Tufftoad 08-12-2011, 07:25 AM AS well as what will be happening, thought I would post this article which explains how Samsung got to where they are currently....Super AMOLED that is.

Tufftoad 08-12-2011, 09:32 AM Here's a further development. I'm sure I've seen this before somewere but for those of you have not, Samsung have also developed the folding OLED display. It'll be just a matter of time before these appear on the market...if not already.

Tufftoad 08-12-2011, 09:40 AM No more worries regarding dropping your Samsung phone....apart from the casing maybe.
Samsung have developed unbreakable screens, whether or not the screen in the video below is AMOLED or OLED I'm not too sure, but this is a good step forward.

Another reason for the video is for the cheesy Korean AMOLED song that accompnies the video :)

Tufftoad 08-12-2011, 09:43 AM And for those of you who didn't know, amongst the numerous innards that Samsung provide for Apple's iPhone the lovely Retina Display is also supplied by Samsung.
While Apple are busy suing their main supplier for the iPhone, The Korean Herald reports that Apple Inc. COO, Tim Cook had a meeting with Samsung execs regarding the supply of AMOLED displays for the iPAD3
Tufftoad 08-12-2011, 11:30 AM So this should also be making it's way on to the market very soon, here's a couple of videos regarding Samsung's Transparent AMOLED displays.

Tufftoad 08-17-2011, 12:46 PM Not directly to do with Samsung but Corning are the people that brought you the Gorilla Glass, used across many high end devices.
With displays playing an even bigger role in our lives it's good to see so much technology being developed, watch the video by Cornng: A Day Made of Glass

Thank you Corning and keep up the good work.
Wow, these screens are just sick!!
Also, that cheesy Korean song, was actually a single released by Son Dambi.......
I cant wait to be able to buy one of these!!!
Tufftoad 08-31-2011, 11:46 AM Shifting media from your phone to your mirror or work surface, love it.
Tufftoad 01-06-2012, 08:41 AM Corning will be appearing at CES 2012 where they will showcase some of their latest developments. Hopefully most of you will know that Corning supply the majority of the worlds Smart Phones with a protective layer called Gorilla Glass, which elevated the companies repuatation in 2011.
At CES 2012 Corning will be showcasing their newest development for protective touch screen displays, Gorilla Glass 2.
Fingers crossed that it is ready in time for the SGSIII!

Tufftoad 02-03-2012, 08:19 PM Samsung and Corning are now on a joint venture to produce Lotus Glass. Samsung are at the forefront of the display market and Corning have been working magic with glass since the late 80s. Lotus Glass offers higher processing temperatures and improved stability.

Tufftoad 02-05-2012, 04:37 PM Did you see the video A Day Made Of Glass by Corning on Post #11 of this thread? I really liked the video and what Corning are developing for the future. A couple of days ago Corning released another video which develops on the ideas based in their first video.
Really liked this video too, worth a watch. Corning - A Day Made Of Glass 2

Tufftoad 03-05-2012, 12:24 PM Apple iPad mini 7 inch confirmed Apple in talk with SMD to deliver flexible AMOLEDs for future iPads (http://www.oled-display.net/apple-ipad-mini-7-inch-confirmed-for-q3-2012-apple-in-talk-with-smd-to-deliver-flexible-amoleds-for-future-ipads/)
Now that Apple have rinsed every possible lawsuit out of Samsung it looks like they now want to do business with them. Apple are in talks with Samsung Mobile regarding their flexible OLED displays which Apple are looking to use in some up and coming devices, noticabley a 7inch tablet.
Watchout Samsung, make sure Apple don't start using the screens then claim they designed it.
Tufftoad 08-23-2012, 12:04 PM Hey all, this video popped up on my YouTube account. XDA Developers have posted a video explaining how Gorilla Glass is made, what makes it 'hard' and why it's used.
It's quite interesting and they do some of the usual scratch and drop tests. Please take note of some of the scratch tests, especially those of you that like to leave your phone in your pocket with key and coins etc.
The device used in this video is the Galaxy Note

Tufftoad 09-11-2012, 03:10 PM Samsung To Start Flexible AMOLED Display Production in November?
Samsung has maintained that its flexible AMOLED displays will go into mass production this year and according to a report by MK News, Samsung Display will start producing the panels from November soon after they’ve selected the material supplier.
It is interesting to note that the report claims Samsung will produce a 5.5-inch flexible AMOLED panel and will be used in the improved version of Galaxy Note II.

Tufftoad 09-18-2012, 12:35 PM Samsung starts mass production of 128GB memory and 2GB LPDDR3 mobile RAM
Samsung announced today that its 128GB eMMC memory chips and 2GB LPDDR3 RAM for mobile devices have entered mass production.
At the Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum 2012 in Taiwan today, Sammy spilled some interesting details about its upcoming memory chips.
The new DRAM is built using the 30nm manufacturing process and is the first 2GB low power double-data-rate 3 (LPDDR3) RAM to hit mass production. It can achieve data transfer speeds of up to 200MB/s per pin, making it 50 percent faster than the previous generation LPDDR2 RAM.
The new 128GB eMMC memory chips are quite fast as well with transfer speeds of up to 140MB/s. It’s manufactured on a 20nm process and uses NAND with a toggle DDR2 interface.
Samsung hasn’t given any estimates when we can expect those chips in mobile devices, but having just entered in mass production, I’d say early 2013 is a safe bet.

You forgot the bit were Apple will order the parts for their next 5s and then sue Samsung!
Tufftoad 01-04-2013, 03:59 PM Corning’s Gorilla Glass has become synonymous with scratch-resistance for mobile devices (both phones and tablets), so we’re excited to see the third iteration of the product. Corning will showcase it at CES and its president will give a talk about the future of specialized glass for the video and gaming industry.
Gorilla Glass 3 promises a 3x increase in scratch resistance and fewer visible scratches. When GG3 does get scratched, Corning says its retained strength will be 50% better than that of the predecessors.
This is thanks to something called Native Damage Resistance, which will also reduce the propagation of flaws.
Corning’s president will talk about how specialized glass will impact “hi-res, 3D, HD video, Internet-connected TVs, conformable displays, tablets and viral apps”. Gorilla Glass is already used on phones, tablets and TVs and Lotus Glass is flexible (probably what he means by “conformable displays”), but how glass will affect viral apps is beyond me.

"Corning plans to introduce two new products at CES 2013: Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3, a new glass composition with durability enhancements; and Optical Cables by Corning, fiber-based, device-to-device connectivity solutions that significantly extend the data transmission range past the limits of copper-based cables. Full product details will be included in announcements planned for Monday, Jan. 7."
