: JPX FroYo 2.2.1 Out via Kies
Hey Guys,
Just done a flash via Kies to get this, was originally on JPU. also on samfirmwares, if you want to flash via Kies from JPU, this is what i did;
Download sgstools from the market and follow the instructions in the thread, make sure usb cable is unplugged;
SGStools script to get JPU working with kies (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872874)
Then get the kies reg patcher; patch for XEU;
Kies Reg Patcher (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835628)
In kies, open firmware upgrade and there you go, upgrade offered,
no real differences from what i can see to be honest, quadrant scores are simular to JPU and runs the same.
Also, to root, found SUPERONECLICKROOT (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682) to work.
Enjoy.
Swipermusic 12-18-2010, 03:42 PM That Kies reg patcher looks a bit complicated to follow!
Goots 12-18-2010, 04:13 PM I believe the only noticeable difference from JPU is the fact that it now works with Kies.
I guess it's the official release of JPU, just renamed to JPX maybe ?

Enable spoof : TRUE
Spoof Product code as: XEU
Write to registry, remember to "enable spoof" to false after the reflash as you will always be offered the firmware upgrade for XEU.
Think your right goots, the only thing i found different is the sound for charging complete....more annoying lolz
andy-roid 12-18-2010, 06:45 PM now running jpx flashed with odin only one file to put in to pda now kies detects the phone
MrSkiba 12-18-2010, 08:29 PM I actually had a lot of trouble going from JPU to JPX, lots of failed to start system apps when flashed. After much going around in circles, I corrected it by:
Flashing back to JPU with 512 PIT and RE-Partition
Factory Reset, Clear Cache, Format internal Memory (as done automatically on first JPU start, just let it run and boot)
Power off phone (don't pull battery for safety)
Boot back to Downloader and flash JPX (no pit or re-partition)
Enjoy the Official XEU JPX Firmware!
andy-roid 12-18-2010, 08:56 PM glad i updated to jpx because the kies air is good
MrSkiba 12-18-2010, 09:44 PM glad i updated to jpx because the kies air is good
I second that! really good! Well done Sammy!
Goots 12-18-2010, 10:34 PM Kies Air is available on JPU also :p
I agree though, it's the best Samsung released App I've seen for a while :)
Tufftoad 12-18-2010, 10:45 PM Already used this to get some photos off my phone, was to lazy to get the cable out of my bag. If you don't need Kies on your PC then even better, especially for people with USB problems.
Ordinary_Boy 12-18-2010, 11:47 PM Sorry but if JPX was just the same as JPU, they would have just released JPU as the official ROM.
Just because its not that evident that there are any discernible changes between the two ROM's, doesn't mean there aren't any.
eg. under JPU I could not connect my phone to the bluetooth head unit in my car. This is something that worked well on JPO and it now works again on JPX.
Also I for one was experiencing forced closures with the browser after about a weeks usage. Prior to JPU I have not experienced these FC's in the browser since the JPM ROM. So I'm hoping that this JPX has sorted this now.
Apart from anything else this is the official release, meaning that once Samsung have registered the ROM with Google, all the copy protected Apps from the Android market will be available once again, without any market hack.
and if we are to believe that this ROM has the OTA feature in preparation for an official Gingerbread update in February, then its pretty unlikely that this forthcoming update will be made available OTA to phones which are running on the leaked JPU.
I could understand people perhaps not bothering to update from JPU if this JPX was just another leaked unofficial ROM, but this is not the case, it is currently the official firmware with the newest build date.
Dragon546 12-19-2010, 12:33 AM I had to use the patcher because I was stuck on JPO my code was also HKAXEU rather than HKDXEU not found an answer to it. 2.2.1 is awesome, it's speedy enough for me GPS is a lot better. So Happy I ditched the DHD for a SGS again.
Phone_Guru 12-19-2010, 02:44 AM CF Root is now available

Hi I want to update to JPX, I'm also on JPO, flashed via Odin using Goots method, am I safe to use the patcher ?
Hi I want to update to JPX, I'm also on JPO, flashed via Odin using Goots method, am I safe to use the patcher ?
Hey inflammo,
Are you on the HKA code? if so...
From what ive read, you can flash it with ODIN, probably better than kies to be honest...in the same respect, you could use the patcher but unsure if it would work. You could take a gamble with kies. Just make sure you can get into download/recovery mode before you do anything and lagfixes disabled.
ODIN route will probably be better.
I would probably go to JPU first, 512.PIT with re-partition, PHONE, MODEM and CSC.
Then JPX, just the file in PDA, no PIT, no re-partition.
Reason i say JPU first is JPX is on 512.PIT and JPO is on 803 PIT, so, probably better if you go to JPU first, can anyone confirm this method???
Has anyone gone from JPO straight to JPX using ODIN?

You make a fine argument sir, and with your logic in mind I shall flash to JPX tonight :)

jbow71 12-19-2010, 12:53 PM Has anyone gone from JPO straight to JPX using ODIN?[/QUOTE]
Hi guys, I flashed straight from JPO to JPX via Odin, just using the tar file in the PDA section. Only one issue to report so far, that was the stock email app kept force closing. No biggy, don't use it anyway.
I haven't re-partitioned or anything, and maybe factory reset might fix the FC, but not going to do that unless I have to. Applied the Busybox root access via Odin.
All looks good so far, pretty much the same as JPO
Tufftoad 12-19-2010, 01:10 PM Just installed JPU and noticed that OTA update option is available (with samsung account). Is this also available in JPX (Menu > About Phone > Software Update)
And I have safely made it to JPX with it's sand dune wallpaper...woo! Time to set it all up again and see if Titanium saves the saved games!
Can choose to save your pics as wallpapers but with landscape or portrait now.
Dragon546 12-19-2010, 03:03 PM Hi I want to update to JPX, I'm also on JPO, flashed via Odin using Goots method, am I safe to use the patcher ?
I would check with Goots about the Odin side of things it's been a while since I use Odin. I updated JPO using latest kies. Then used the patcher to go JPX
Tufftoad 12-19-2010, 03:11 PM Very impressed with JPX so far. Seems smooth, a bit more responsive than JPO without lag fix. Camera Quality I think is better, not fully tested yet. Took a couple of snaps to check.
The photo taken on the 18th was with JPO, it was snowing too though.
scotlad80 12-19-2010, 04:03 PM Can I go from JP5 to JPX?
Can I go from JP5 to JPX?
Hmmm, is JP5 USA firmware?
Not sure how that would go with the euro firmware. Dont think they can be mixed dude.
scotlad80 12-19-2010, 05:27 PM Its 3 mobiles firmware for Froyo
PDA: I9000NEJP5
PHONE: I9000NEJP2
CSC: I9000HCGJP5
BUILD: 2010.11
Tufftoad 12-19-2010, 06:46 PM If it's uk and on 3 then no reason why you couldn't. So long as you have the 3 button combo. Check out the XDA forum link that was posted earlier in the thread.

Ahh your 3 uk, you can definatly get JPX, like tufftoad says, make sure you can get into recovery/download before you do anything, lag fixes disabled etc.
Dont know about a jump from JP5 to JPX though, kies may negotiate the upgrade, but as its an exploit, it will think your going from unbranded XEU firmware.
ODIN route is always better.
Should hopefully work with kies hack and if it does, you should be able to fall back on ODIN.
scotlad80 12-19-2010, 08:05 PM Seems to have worked, had a few force closes but a factory reset seems to have done the trick. Thanks.
scotlad80 12-19-2010, 08:14 PM For some reason my network operators name is showing twice??
so 33? lol - Is it causing any problems?
Tufftoad 12-19-2010, 08:21 PM Has anyone rooted JPX yet? If so what method did they use (if xda method please mention which version).
scotlad80 12-19-2010, 08:25 PM more like
3
3
but not causing any problems, used Odin and its great to be free of all the 3 rubbish that was on the phone
Has anyone rooted JPX yet? If so what method did they use (if xda method please mention which version).
Originally rooted with superoneclick root.
But chainfire method also works
JPX chainfire rooting with busybox 1.15.3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=467918&d=1292727748)
JPX chainfire rooting with busybox 1.17.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=467919&d=1292727783)
scotlad80 12-19-2010, 08:33 PM Ok just noticed can no longer get 3G, is there anything I can do to fix this?
Ok just noticed can no longer get 3G, is there anything I can do to fix this?
tap your menu > settings > wireless and network > mobile networks >
Tell us what it says under network mode?
scotlad80 12-19-2010, 08:40 PM Network mode says GSM/WCDMA (auto mode)
When doing a network search it doesnt find any 3G signals at all.
Firstly try going your menu > settings > wireless and network > mobile networks > Access point names
Check your settings are correct
It may be a case of your CSC has changed to KOR, not 100% sure if this will sort it, but it will completely debrand your phone and put your code to XEU.
This will probably factory reset your phone as well, so, probably your apps will be lost.
Type *#06# and note down your IMEI number.
Type *#272*IMEI# where IMEI is, place your number there, it will present you with a menu, select XEU and install, your phone will reboot, like i said, you will probably loose your apps and i believe it performs a factory reset. so backup you contacts and other stuff etc.
This may sort it, i have looked at the CSC files of this firmware and the H3G codes are supported in the XEU CSC, so, hopefully should work.
Unless anyone else knows anything else? lolz
scotlad80 12-19-2010, 08:49 PM Thank you I will give that a try
scotlad80 12-19-2010, 08:58 PM Ok didnt work and now i cant connect to wifi either think my phone is knackered.
Forget that wifi now working
hmm, strange, well atleast you have a completely debranded phone now.
Strange it doesnt find any 3G signals, wifi isnt enabled the same time as your 3G is it, as wifi will take presidence. Does 2G work?
Tufftoad 12-19-2010, 09:07 PM When you updated did you register your IMEI number and select your area code?
scotlad80 12-19-2010, 09:11 PM 2G is working fine, it is strange, signal isnt the strongest but it is usually there. Will see what it is like at work tomorrow as there is a stronger 3G signal. I has WIFI turned off when I was checking.
When you updated did you register your IMEI number and select your area code?
I didnt see that when i updated tufftoad :-S
scotlad80 12-19-2010, 09:14 PM When you updated did you register your IMEI number and select your area code?
The update to JPX or when I changed it to XEU?
2G is working fine, it is strange, signal isnt the strongest but it is usually there. Will see what it is like at work tomorrow as there is a stronger 3G signal. I has WIFI turned off when I was checking.
As it could be a differnt kernel with this firmware, it may switch differently with 2G/3G, when i was on lower firmwares, i could only see 2G and would momentarily switch to 3G for a second and switch back. Could be how the firmware works, fixed bugs for optimum mobile broadband connection. Who knows. Hopefully should be ok.
Tufftoad 12-19-2010, 09:54 PM When ever, in Odin, you flash a file in the CSC section you should need to register your IMEI number. I believe the CSC file is directly linked to which region you are in, hence why it might affect network services.
Think that could be the case, but is definitely in Goots' guide. Not sure if necessary if Kies reg hacked.
Goots 12-19-2010, 10:06 PM Slightly off topic, sorry, but some sweet battery indicator mods for JPX IN THIS THREAD. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8606008&postcount=895)

Oh hell yes! been waiting for some...thanks for telling us Goots. :-P
Goots 12-19-2010, 10:22 PM Hmm just tried the Mode 2 one and the phone didn't like it - wouldn't boot :(
I'll let you know if I have more luck next time.
A load of FC's lolz - But typical with the copy and replace method.
I had to pull the battery out with mine, didnt reboot either, booted up once i put the battery in and all good :-D
Goots 12-19-2010, 10:41 PM I tried the Mode 1 and it worked - looks pretty sweet too, I'll keep it for a while :)
Tufftoad 12-19-2010, 11:52 PM The update to JPX or when I changed it to XEU?
Saw it when updating to JPO somewhere??? Didn't sleep last night so mind is frazzled!
Finally got rooted, can start to restore apps.
extremekhaos 12-20-2010, 02:07 AM You can go directly to thoughs from JPU. Though any speedmods or rooting will be gone, so you gotta get the updated files.

I have done this as well and factory reset after but still no joy. The phone used to when doing a network search say 3 (3G) 3 (2G) etc but now it just lists network names. When I go into the about phone menu then status Mobile Network Type is GPRS, is this what it should be?

If your on 2G it will be listed as GPRS. If on 3G, will be listed UMTS.
As your in Auto mode, it should switch, you could try forcing it to WCDMA to enable 3G on.

Using phone at work and 3G is working perfectly, it switched automatically so it looks like it is something to do with the network at home and not the phone. Just need to get it unlocked from 3 now :)

Good to see that its working dude.
Like doomed originally said, you should be able to get it for free from them as your contract is nearly up. But if not, you can always try the link in the previous posts for unlocking your phone, will be interesting if the helroz method works for JPX.

panlid 12-20-2010, 05:37 PM Hi guys.
Im finding all this confusing.
I am now on jpu and now im told there is a next upgrade called jpx which will connect to kies again.
Now whats all this jpk???
Everytime i do an upgrade i am having to reload everything and then a week later another upgrade.
Im getting lost as to what point we are up to and what benefit there is to upgrading. I rooted and tried backing up my stuff then when i went to jpu i hadnt a clue how to retrieve everything so started from scratch again.
Phone seems fast enough, still getting some FC on the net and the squares on the loading pages but now I feel i need to go down long roads everytime I have an upgrade.
If i go from jpu to jpx/k what method do I use?
Goots 12-20-2010, 05:52 PM As of today, the very latest version is JPX. It's been officially released in the UK. We know this because it's being offered as a firmware upgrade through Kies. JPU was the beta version of JPX and never officially released.
If you backed all your stuff up using Titanium Backup, just reinstall that app after flashing new firmware, then click on the Backup/Restore tab and your stuff should be listed there waiting to be restored. It will give you the option to restore the app & data, or just app. The safest thing is just to restore the app because data generated while on one set of firmware sometimes causes trouble if used on another. The app itself though is the same regardless of firmware.
You can flash to JPX using Kies if you are offered it, or it is also available as a downloadable file to flash using Odin :)
panlid 12-20-2010, 06:05 PM goots for pm
I cant use kies as i cant connect on jpu.
Did i read somewhere that i needed to be rooted to use titanium?
panlid 12-20-2010, 06:09 PM tried it and it says check my rom is rooted so i need to root?
Goots 12-20-2010, 06:11 PM Yeah, you must have been Rooted once to use TB, so you'll have to root again to use it :)
panlid 12-20-2010, 06:12 PM Actually goots, i dont really have a million things to back up.
If i was to flash using odin again, can you give me the idiot proof way to do it please
Goots 12-20-2010, 06:17 PM If you are on JPU already it's pretty easy. Download the JPX firmware file from samfirmware.com. Unzip it and you will have a single file (JPX_JPX_U_JPX.tar I think). Use this as the PDA in Odin, no need to use a pit file, no need to repartition. Make sure the Reboot box is ticked. Make sure the F.Reset Time box is ticked. Make sure you have no lagfixes applied. Start your phone in download mode, connect to Odin and click start :)
panlid 12-20-2010, 06:27 PM Cheers goots, will try now. FActory reset again?
Goots 12-20-2010, 06:29 PM Actually this time, see how you get on without it. Although the flash might set your CSC to KOR in which case you will need to change it, and that practice pretty much does a reset anyway.
panlid 12-20-2010, 06:42 PM im looking on that site but cant see the download
panlid 12-20-2010, 06:52 PM ok, ive registered and found it i think.
Goots 12-20-2010, 06:54 PM Sorry mate I should have linked to it, I have about 50 things on here atm :)
HERE IS THE JPX FIRMWARE (http://www.multiupload.com/MYF04CURFU)
panlid 12-20-2010, 06:57 PM no worries goots, i appreciate your time as always. Thats the file i found and am downloading it now. Im slowly getting more confident with these things now you'll be glad to hear lol
panlid 12-20-2010, 07:11 PM goots, in that file is 5 smaller files, is that right?
panlid 12-20-2010, 07:32 PM ok ive done it but it hasnt asked for csc settings etc.
Do i need to do a factory reset or will it be fine?
doesnt seem to want to load kies either. its just saying connecting the device for ages.
update* done a reset and it works perfect. MAny thanks goots
Goots 12-20-2010, 08:10 PM Sorry mate I had to go out and pick up the daughter unit.
I see you've worked it out for yourself but for anyone else reading, once you download the file you extract it to a single TAR file and flash it as the PDA in Odin with no pit file and repartition not ticked.
Panlid it might be worth checking that it hasn't set your CSC to KOR which it has been known to do.
Dial *#06# to find your IMEI then dial *#272*YOUR IMEI# to see your CSC. It should be XEU, if it is KOR, click on XEU and then click install. You will lose all account settings and need to set them up again.
panlid 12-20-2010, 08:20 PM yep goots. it did set it as XEU. I did the IMEI thing and it had already done it.
Just setting it all back up again. Top Man
paddyb 12-20-2010, 10:09 PM Just in-case you're wondering, you can go straight from Eclair to JPX with KIES using the reg hack here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835628
I did this on an Orange branded and sim locked handset:
PDA: BVJM5
Phone: BVJM1
CSC: ORAJM3
And used product code XEU.
John007 12-21-2010, 02:53 AM New firmware now available using kies reg hack XXJPY. Quadrant score seems to be better than on JPX
ramprasaddharangutti 12-22-2010, 09:01 PM I'm from India... Works with XEU code.... Dont forget to get the latest kies first which is http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/SW/201011/20101125094800578/Kies_1.5.3.10103_102_1.exe
Cheers!!!

Hey dude,
ODIN route;
Flash to JPU - With Phone, PDA and CSC files, with 512.PIT and re-partition
Then acquire JPX file from samfirmwares, it will be a single file, put this into PDA section of ODIN and reflash, no re-partition, no PIT....there you go.
You now have JPX
panlid 12-23-2010, 07:06 AM Im tired of re setting up my phone after all these updates.
Im getting a bit of lag again and still getting some FC on the browser so want to keep up with the updates.
Ive not got loads of apps and tried titanium when i was rooted but didnt really want to root again if i can help it.
Anyway I couldnt understand how Titanium worked anyway.
Is there a quicker way to get your phone back to how you had it before a reset or am I asking a stupid question?

Well, if you want to keep up with the updates and still have everything kept without having to restore etc. You can always go down the kies route, it will keep everything there for you, you will lose root though, thats the only thing.
With the lag, you could apply a lagfix, voodoo is a good one as is OCLF, but with OCLF you will need root, and with voodoo, you will need ODIN or Clockwork MOD.
Titanium usually works well with me, just a case of backup and restore tbh. you will need root and busybox to make it work.
ODIN route in my opinion is the better way to go, just makes the phone feel fresher! :p

Are you using a bluetooth handsfree or the wired samsung one? If bluetooth you will have to pair the two again, also try do a restore of the phone.

It wasn't an option with froyo 2.2 but its a new feature for 2.2.1
jacopo3001 12-27-2010, 03:43 PM I bought my galaxy TAB in China, CSC is CHN only.
Factory setup is Froyo 2.2.
But it comes without App Market and Google Sync, making it quite useless.
I would like to change it to a european install (or any other free market), is this kies patch something that could help me?
thanks for advising.

Hey dude,
Think if you go to samfirmwares, they have the right firmware for you as well as other info.
Not sure if it works the same as the galaxy phones, you might be able to get away with using kies reg patcher, but if not, heres a LINK (http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-p1000.htm) with firmwares and flashing, you will need to register, all free.
Good luck dude, let us know how it goes.
JamesMucklow 01-01-2011, 02:44 PM I upgraded from eclair to JPX by using Kies and Kies registry patcher, I am on Orange in the UK. The phone is like a new machine, much better performance, very little lag and some new applications and features, such as task manager.
The only issue I have was my applications disappeared from Market, although they were installed on the phone. The fix for this was to un-install and re-install a single app and they all re-appeared.
Overall I would recommend the upgrade to anybody.
