Okay, so you're not feeling Samsung's Nexus S. We'd say that's a little premature, but still, we get it. We understand. How about this, then? Is this more to your liking? We've just been tipped with a few morsels on what should become Samsung's flagship Android device early next year -- February, to be specific, suggesting we could see an unveiling at MWC -- and it's looking promising. Different parts of the slide deck describe it as having either a 4.3- or 4.5-inch "sAMOLED2" display, presumably standing for "Super AMOLED 2" and implying that Sammy's made some advancements over the screens we've been seeing on the Galaxy S series this year. It'll naturally have Android Gingerbread and be equipped with an 8 megapixel camera capable of 1080p video capture, 14.4Mbps HSPA, Bluetooth 3.0, a 1.2GHz core of some sort, and 16GB of storage onboard. The deck describes it as having an "ultra sleek design," and judging from the side shot, we'd tend to agree. So who's holding out for this?

Update: We're confident that the above slide comes from Samsung, but one of the pictures therein is most definitely not of a new Samsung phone -- but rather a VoIP handset by Apiotek from several years ago. Considering the image in question pops up right away in a Google Image search for "ultra slim phone," we're inclined to think Samsung got a little hasty putting together the PowerPoint this time round.

Last week a tweet leaked word about a mysterious handset called the Samsung GT-i9200. With similar model numbers to the Samsung Nexus S (GT-i9020) and the Samsung Galaxy 2 (GT-i9100), the hope was that this would be a high-end model. While nothing has changed to kill off that dream, references in the firmware to a Hummingbird processor and an 800 x 480 display brought forth the notion that the mystery phone has a lineage that goes back to the Galaxy 2 line.

Pako7, a member of the Xda-developers forum, dug into the firmware and extracted some images including a large number of icons, screens of a camera interface and the virtual keyboard. If some of the icons look familiar, it is because they were on the screen of a phone photographed on a questionable product information sheet. The handset in the picture is allegedly an undisclosed Samsung flagship model for the first half of 2011. Many of you called this a photoshopped fake as the phone looks suspiciously like the Apple iPhone 4, right down to the spot where the two antennas meet. Hopefully some more information will develop that will give us a better idea about the Samsung GT-i9200.

Now a few pictures have been uploaded on Picasa by one JuBong Lee, who is apparently stationed in Korea, judging from the pictures of the Anycall handset. The exif data listed by Picasa confirms that the shots are taken with the camera of the Samsung GT-I9200. Now, unfortunately, these are not the full resolution photos, so we can't judge exactly how many megapixels that camera is, but rather the photographer has been testing the photo upload function, which resized the images.

have a look at the entire album of 9200 shots

good day...

just wanted to comment on the pics of the new galaxy s...

For the galaxy s (which i have), it resembles the iphone3g..then with the pics above the new phone looks like the iphone4...have you noticed it as well?

i hope the new phone won't have an issue with the antenna like the iphone4...

I was thinking the exact same thing, but the I phone 4 antenna was supposed to be really good for reception if they didn't mess it up. the thing I hate is the screen is larger but same 450x800 resolution, so much much lower pixel density.. and with nokia lg and motorola making dual cores, 1.2 single core is lame for the galaxy s' successor

who needs official firmware support? Samsung sucks since more than 10 years with software support... Samsung will never update their software politic, but as long as they can port the newest android to their devices I'll be lucky. As long as we have people like Darky or Insanity there will be no problems, maybe we just have to collect money and to buy them the latest phones but that's all. And my next phone needs at least dual core, 3 times better battery and in best case solar capacity... Otherwise I'm very happy with my sgs...

The only reason why I would upgrade again is if the screen has a higher resolution than 800 X 480. I'm tired of that resolution which I had for years now. I dont even care if its not a dual core, the current 1ghz processors are more than adequate for todays games and apps.

DirtySoul
01-25-2011, 11:46 AM
The resolution will actually be higher, even if they say it's 480x800 :) Don't forget that SAMOLED Plus has 50% more subpixels! And it will be 4.3 inches :) And better camera, guess with full HD capabilities and 8mp photos.

Sub pixels? Didnt know of such a thing! Will have to research that ;) So our current Galaxy S has this 50% more sub pixels?

I read somewhere that the Galaxy S2 is not going to be released with SAmoled+, the article I found was only a couple of days old.

I think the same article also said only 720p recording, not 1080p. Will try to find the article, if not will post when I get home.

edit: **Nope I'm all wrong, that's the Nexus S being released in Italy doesn't have a SAMOLED display**

It has 50% less subpixels. Regular pixels have 3 subpixels, SAmoled screens have only 2. This is so-called Pentile pixel layout. In next generation displays, SAmoled Plus, it will have 3 subpixels. In other words, Samsung first invented the crutch, and now it's throwing it away...

Sounds more like an optical illusion! Reminds me of the days when I had a Sinclair Spectrum (yep I'm that old), when programmers would fool our vision of having more than 2 colours on a character block ;)

So with the extra 3rd sub pixel, would I see more of a web page in normal view than on a standard 800 X480 lcd?

DirtySoul
01-25-2011, 03:27 PM
With the extra 3rd subpixel, the image will be brighter, with better outdoor visibility, and less "grainy", which will help very much when viewing texts. You won't be able to see more of a web page, but you won't have to zoom it out so much because the details will be clearer.

:) I remember programming my own computer games from a book from the library on a Commadore Vic20 (no memory), 1k expansion board and external tape player :)

edit: Thanks Dirtysoul for the subpixel stuff, will read up. Most probably like others never heard of this before.

Very strange that you didn't hear all this before, this was always considered the biggest disadvantage of SAmoled screens (along with the complaints like "it's too bright, oversaturated, blah blah blah), technically our phone's resolution is 392 x 653 (because normal pixels have 3 subpixels, not 2). It is very well seen on diagonal lines - they are very serrated (correct me about this word, don't know any other).

Tufftoad

When choosing this round of phones, I read up on the screens but not too depth of subpixels, combined with the ARM Cortex it was slightly ahead of the HTC (better GPU from what I remember plus my mate had HTC). Had a quick read of the wiki link and sadly enough I found it interesting.

I remember the menus and text being sharper, to be honest I thought it was down to Symbian platform (looked basic) not subpixels/pixels. Guess it holds reason to the comments about video quality from i8910 to SGS being blurry.

There is not one phone I can find coming out in 2011 that has a resolution of more than 480 X 800. Looks like the Iphone will hold its crown for some time though that resolution on a 3.5inch display does seem a waste. As for the sub pixel matrix balava, I'm now scrutinising the differences between my HTC Desire and SGS and indeed when using the e-reader apps and internet browser, the text look do look more solid on the desire than it does on the SGS. But its very minute difference.

I dunno. The phone looks interesting enough i suppose, if rather like the sony erricson arc. I'll be in the market for a new phone too at the start of april and i'm really not sure what to get. The dual core motorola isgoing to have some sort of locked bootloader, samsung is going to abandon its new flagship within weeks and htc hasn't yet released plans for anything womderful for this year. Any suggestions?

samsung phones are ugly as hell, sony ericsson makes really sexy phones, htc makes really useful phones, but samsungs specs are always the highest, nokia has beast camera phones but run symbian.. sigh. you guys remember the backflip? how it had a touchpad on the back of the phone, so you could narrow in on text, i want to see something like that, or a trackpad.. its too hard to select text or move the curser back or hit links squished together on this phone..

i think phones should just go up to 1920x1080 and be done with the resolution race. not that you get much benefit over what we have now, but maybe the carriers would go on to advertise phones based on things that matter like how much radiation they put out, access to the software stack on the phone and support for communication standards, recycleability of the materials used and difficulty in mining and refining them, conditions in the factories where the phones are assembled and stuff like that. it's quite difficult to find information about stuff like that nowadays, but very easy to find out the speed of the cpu used.

@SomeOne wth you dont even have a galaxy s? haha, well i wish nokia would make specs like samsung, with their BEAST carl zeiss 12.1mp class leading mobile lens with xenon flash, and stylish look. the reason i didnt get the N8 is because of the crap processor, ram, os, and screen

So you all probably know that the Galaxy S 2 is going to be announced at MWC. Well, we from Samfirmware.com got our hands on some specifications from our insiders of this High-end Android phone. So for a fact we know that Samsung is testing 2 devices one 4.3'' and a 4.5'' inch screen size . And these phones have got the much rumoured Orion Dual-core on board one 1.0 GHZ and one 1.2 GHZ. Which one Samsung will use is not known by us . But we guess the 4.5'' one to compete with LG and HTC .

So now we know the screen size and his processor but lets take a look to some other specifications . It will be the Super Amoled Plus screen that people talked about . And we know that it will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread . It supports external SD-Cards up to 32 GB. And it will have Micro-Usb. To listen to your favorite music through your favorite headphone it will support 3.5mm Audio jack . This time they put a LED flash on the back to get the most out of the 8 Megapixel Camera. On the front it has got a 1.3 Megapixel Camera. The phone will have a NFC chip on board .

Specifications known by us.

Screensize : 4.3'' or the 4.5''

Screen sort : Super Amoled Plus

Camera : 8 Megapixels on the back 1.3 Megapixels on the front

with LED flash on the back.

Sd support : Up to 32 GB

Processor : Orion Dual Core 1.0 or 1.2 GHZ

Android : 2.3

Bluetooth : 3.0

NFC Chip : Yes

Unfortunately we can't give any information of the phones design . When we got more information about this we will inform you.

As you all have seen we twittered a little preview of the specifications earlier today . So keep following us on twitter and recieve more leaked specifications as soon as we got them .
