Great job and effort in posting this for everyone!

Though - maybe a moderator can move it to the firmware section?

And possibly a reference to where you got/found them (ie. taken from xda dev., and/or samfirmware, etc.).

Great job though!

I take it that's a 2.2 firmware that used 512.pit.

So all you need to do is add the JPY file to PDA then flash :)

gc1984
01-15-2011, 03:43 PM
It was an upgrade to 2.2 i got through Kies - so no idea of the pit.

If thats the case then i shall try the flash to get JPY. So i wont need a Phone or CSC file? Awesome!!

Nope its just that one file to put into PDA :)

gc1984

Ok - just upgraded to kies 2.0 and got an upgrade to JP6 now - which i have checked and runs on 803 pit. So does this mean i have to include the 512 pit in the flash process along with the JPY in the PDA box and all should go smoothly?

Apologies for all the questions!

Doomed
01-16-2011, 08:17 PM
You could try it without and see if it works :) or;

Tick Repartition, add 512.pit and JPY to the PDA box.

This is the way I did it:

Tick Repartition and added 512.pit > Flashed.
Re-enter download mode > Add JPY to PDA box > Flashed :) Don't know why I did it this way, or remember why :)

Hmmm, apparently you can go straight to JPY with just having in PDA, no repartition, no PIT. I have never tried this method to be honest.

What i would do is;

Flash JPU first;
3 Files with 512.PIT and re-partition checked.

Single file in PDA, NO REPARTITION, NO PIT

From what I remember JPY is just one file which goes in PDA slot (no need to untick or tick anything).

Then you need to download one of the Gingerbread Firmwares. I would recommend going to Samfirmware.com, you can find tutorials there too. in the list of firmwares you will see next to the firwmare which pit file is required.

Not sure if it is wise to flash euro firmware on asian phone....for now, will check.

Found this thread (http://android.modaco.com/content/samsung-galaxy-s-s-modaco-com/323595/latest-asia-firmware-i9000dxjpa-and-europe-firmware-i9000xfjp7-is-out/), which also links to a thread on the XDA forums (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844459) to the European equivalent I9000XFJP7.

Did you buy your phone from Asia and which country are you in?

I bought my phone in Singapore last year and have updated it with the latest European firmware (XXJVO, 2.3.3) posted on the first page without any problems. The XXJVO firmware is very fast but it consumes a lot of battery (Have to charge every night). I'll probably update again when the next version is out.

Hi, I bought my Galaxy S in Singapore. I flashed with Korean XXJVK back in Mar'11 and was successful. When I tried the May DXJV9 and 803 pit, the phone became bricked. Reflashed back to XXJVK but without pit and is ok again. Which pit should I use - 512, 513, 803? Thanks :)

The reason why I wanna try the May f/w with multi-CSC is that the previous version is Korean but I want Chinese input.

Hi, I tried to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy s by going through the link 'http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/3190-Official-firmwares-for-Samsung-Galaxy-S-I9000-Download'. Now I can download pit and odin as per link provided. But I cannot download CSC as both the links didn't work. Then I downloaded 'I9000DXJV9|2.3.3|May 2011|Download Link1 or Link2' using link 1 and after extracting it, I found a CSC file 'CSC_OLBJV9.tar.md5' of just 19 MB in size. Anyway I have tried to upgrade my phone using that CSC file, now while runing Odin I found 'BOOTLOADER' in between PIT and PDA option but I did not find any 'BOOTLOADER' file, so I started upgrading my phone (with Re-Partition' option as that was automatically ticked). But after upgradation, my phone cannot automatically boot but gave the serveral options to boot and I chose 'Boot Mode' (other options were 'Factory reset' etc)... But my phone started to boot with welcome screens and after sometime of doing nothing once again tried to boot with the same welcome screen and vertually fell into loop. Means I cannot boot it... So please let know what I should do ASAP... Thanks in advance for your kind assistance

I NEED HELP! PLEASE!!??
I need to reflash Gingerbread on my Galaxy S because it ceased to work properly after root failure. So I think the only thing to do is try and reflash Gingerbread.
I live in Norway, and I have downloaded -Odin+pit and the CSE file -I9000XWJVH_XEEJV3|2.3.3|2011 May, from this thread: http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/3190-Official-firmwares-for-Samsung-Galaxy-S-I9000-Download
What other files do I need, and where can I find them? And finally -in which order do I flash them? I haven't done this before so any help here will be greatly appreciated. As I have 15 years of computer experience, I should be able to manage it if I receive some guide lines.

Stop! You have a Galaxy S II (i9100), not a Galaxy S (i9000). Go to the SGS II section of the forums and look there - although as a beginner you should perform firmware upgrades via Samsung's Kies PC software.

1. Backup contacts, apps etc. (Titanium Backup / MyBackup will help or you can export contacts to SD card via the options when on Contacts screen).
2. Power off phone
3. Press Volume UP + Home + Power keys simultaneously until splash screen appears and release
4. You should get a recovery menu wherein you can factory reset the device

Have you any 3rd party apps that may be incompatible with the newer stock dialer? Try an alternative dialer from the Market and see if that works.

The app Catlog will allow you to view and record system logs, so you may want to get that to try and get some clues.

When you download the JVQ firmware, if what you download has one file then you can (as stated in the guide).

If you join Samfirmware.com, on their firmware page they have a couple of guides to flashing with Odin.

edit: You're jumping from 2.2 to the latest firmware of 2.3. the .pit file is the same so you should only have one file and DO NOT tick re-partition.

When I went from 2.2 to 2.3.4 I had to flash a 2.3 firmware and then 2.3.4 firmware.

Firmware version 2.3.4
Baseband version I9000XXJVR
GINGERBREAD.XXJVR

I'm not sure what I was on before, but this is the first time I've done an firmware upgrade,

I love the new features, and the speed has improved loads, also noticed the menus have a 'fade effect' which is cool, however,

my GPS proper sucks now, it keeps losing signal, what do you recommend I should do, can I downgrade to the original firmware?

I phoned Samsung Mobile, and they told me to do a hard factory reset, this didn't help, and it didn't clear the cache properly, it failed

ps: Kies says that my firmware is not updateable

GPS is essential to me, please help, thanks in advance.

JVR is the latest firmware according to Samfirmware.com so no updates would be available for Kies. It's been out a month so not sure if a lot of people have experienced too many problems.

If your GPS has really gone down hill since updating then you can download different firmware from Samfirmware.com. The site also has tutorials and software if needed.

Just had a look at the Galaxysense0.6 you mentioned. There's quite a lot that's not working on this rom, BT, Data, Camera, Radio, Voice recorder. It does say it's a test version and not for daily usage. You also need to be on Froyo to flash this rom.

Hi.
I just talked with Samsung and they could not help me :-( So I try here.

They run their own Android market ... in Chinese .. and many many things are blocked.
I can not access the normal Android market, Facebook etc etc.
I have now patched the phone, but Android market .. NO, and many other things still blocked.
Can anyone help me regarding this phone, as I would like to have it working without restrictions. Firmware or something else.
Cheers

If anything SamMobile.com should have firmwares for your phone. Sign up then click Android Devices > S Series > then select your model phone.

SamMobile.com is in a forum layout so there will be other people with your device asking questions too.

Just checked for you and there is no support at Sammobile for GT-I9008L phones. I found another site which mentioned:

i9003 call Latona
In china I9008L call LatonaTD.
It was Custom phone of China Mobile.
It add TD-SCDMA and cmmb in I9003.but only 1G rom

I think you need to check specific Chinese development sites...or hope that another member knows about this.

Would I be right in saying your from Germany? The latest firmware from Europe should do if you are from Gemany. That would be JVZ under Europe (this is the latest firmware so should be the best). You may then want to change the language back. Do this in Settings / Locale and text. Dont forget to back up anything you really need. Apps can be re-downloaded though but if you have game saves or anything you will want to back them up.

There are other things you should check before you install new firmware. Is your phone carrier locked "Locked to a single Network". Its best to unlock the phone first if it is. See http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/156-i9000-Galaxy-S-codes I believe all the codes are here for checking carrier locks ETC. Actually that thread is a bit disjointed this one is better http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=721111. The carrier lock code is
*#7465625# and you want network to be off. If not you should look at unlocking the phone. Others may be able to help more. I was Advised not to flash a locked phone so im just passing on the Info.

Hi
I have already tried several things, also Rooting but there are still many functions that are blocked.
What about the Android market original application for Samsung S9000. Is there any way to get that installed on my phone ?
The chinese used their own market application, mostly chinese and not worth a dime. The normal Market is or was blocked.

If you want android market I think you should be on a European CSC as Android Market is restricted in some cases from the middle east eastwards. Doing this will basically mean you have to maintain your own phone as you will not get auto updates via Kies etc.

This is what I get When I enter the code *#1234#
PDA: I9000XWJVH
PHONE: I9000XXJVO
CSC: I9000XEFJV2
Which Frimware should I download?

You can download any firmware for European region (as long as you are in Europe (on first post)) so long as the CSC allows the language/region you require. If you are in the UK then I think JVT was the latest stable firmware.

I don't really want to offer advice regarding middle eastern phones but if you want android market then more than likely you will have to flash anywhere else other than Chinese and Arab firmware.

Before you flash your phone with different firmwares it may be worth backing up some vital information. Root your phone so you can back up it's entire state, I think CWM allows you to do this. An app called Nitrality will back up your /EFS Folder (IMEI details).
I would also type *#1234# to find out what firmware I'm on and check with SamMobile.com to see if there is M.Eastern firmware to download in case anything goes wrong.

Just make sure that if you download firmware it's for your model phone (there are 5 or so different Galaxys).

That's the problem. I updated the phone with different firmware before i backup the information :(

My phone is GT-I9000
I updated the phone to 2.3.4 GINGERBREAD.XXJVP
The official version was 2.2 FROYO.J something (I want to know how to know the rest of the J)

Rooting will make me lose the warranty of the phone, and I want to know what is its advantages and its disadvantages?

Thanks in advance

You can always un-root by flashing a stock kernel, assuming the phone is functional. Rooting allows system apps such as backup, tweaking, app management, process management etc to fully access the system, allowing you to, for example, uninstall stock apps, prevent services from auto-starting and backing up most aspects of your phone. The only disadvantage is that you could erroneously give superuser access to malware but you'll always be asked to grant this access so common-sense should mean it's a very low risk.

The only alternative I could think of would be to push apps from Android Market on the web (PC) to your phone.

Are you able to use AppBrain and GetJar as market place's instead?

When I download the firmware from Sammobile, I opened the rar file but its locked with a password.
Do u know the password?

Tufftoad

The password is on the page where you downloaded the firmware,...or was.

Try:
Samfirmware.com
Samfirmware
Sammobile.com
Sammobile

Usually one of the first 2

What is the difference between firmware:

I9000XWJVW|2.3.6|SER|November 2011|Download Link1 or Link2

I9000XWJVW|2.3.6|AUT|November 2011|Download Link1 or Link2

I9000XWJVX|2.3.6|ERA|November 2011|Download Link1 or Link2

I9000XWJVX|2.3.6|PLS|November 2011|Download Link1 or Link2

I9000XWJVZ|2.3.6|OXA|November 2011|Download Link1 or Link2

What this means SER, AUT, ERA, PLS and OXA?!

They are all different languages/regions maybe network providers. Will confirm exactly what they mean Little later when I'm not on the train ;)

SER doesn't come up with much but most probably Serbia.
AUT - Switzerland
ERA = Poland
PLS = Poland
OXA = Think this is either Europe or Orange.

If you want official firmware then you should relly update via Kies. SamMobile.com have no firmware specifically for Romanian phones but you could use any Open Europe based firmware.

The latest one is JVU (2.3.6) released on the 29/12/11. I am currently on this firmware and am very happy with it, read the following thread: Firmware (Android 2.3.6) I9000XXJVU for Samsung Galaxy S (http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/7528-Firmware-(Android-2.3.6)-I9000XXJVU-for-Samsung-Galaxy-S)

I used odin 1.7 and the 512.pit file.

If you've installed new firmware then a factory reset after flashing is sometimes helpful.

edit: this isn't to do with the proximity senseor is it? if you hold the phone close to your face/ear then the screen will turn black, press the home button or power button to turn the screen on.

Hi.. thnx 4 installation guide. I want 2 know is it possible to upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3.6 directly with above method?
Let me tell u my phone's details, its SGS 2.2 froyo with DDJP6 version (Indian CSC) & its rooted through z4root v1.3 app.
I've few questions which I'll ask u:
1- does gingerbread has different bootloader than froyo?
2- how will it effect on regional configurations like network operator, market content, language etc if we install a different region's upgrade on phone? (I knw that DDJP6 is Asian(Indian) version but XXJVU is an Euroean version)
3- stock recovery is Android Recovery 3e which doesn't offer backup/restore option. Which means I can't make a NANDROID backup. ClockworkMod recovery is not compatible with stock firmwares. Its a no go until I backup my current stock rom.
Tell me how to solve this?
4- can sum1 explain why there r so much different .zip/rar file sizes everywhere for the same version? (sumwhere its around 225.9MB, sumwhere 241MB, while sgsforum links to a 371MB .rar file)

I know its too much but I think its better to clear all doubts b4 starting playing with costly phones.

Firstly, you can pretty much flash any firmware for your phone model on to your phone. You don't have to go through each version of Android.

1. Not sure
2. Depends on which CSC you flash. Certain regions don't have access to certain apps on the market place. Flashing a different CSC to the region you are in could effect the quality of phone calls
3. No idea
4. They are not the same version. Samsung release software and then it's distributed to network carriers etc. Network carriers can then put their own software on top of what Samsung has given them.

5. stop using sum1 and b4 etc.

Doomed

1: Yes they are different.
3: As you Rooted download ROM Manager from the market. This will be able to install CWM.

If only that was true for me:)

Ha, didn't read 3 properly at all. Doomed is right, I'm on stock JVU (Dec 11) and rooted with CFRoot which I believe has CWM already installed. Also downloaded RomManager

I've never backed up the entire state, luckily only have 2 accounts to sync and 17 apps of which 5 are system apps like Maps.

Hey thnx.. Ok. I dont want to spread confusion so let me simplyfy
1- do I need to flash 2.3.6 bootloader first before upgrading from 2.2 to 2.3.6?

2- is CWM recovery compatible with stock firmwares XXJVU or XXJVT? I've heard people getting trouble after they flash stock rom while they had CWM recovery installed.

3- is it possible to make NANDROID backup with Android System Recovery 3e?

4- can I flash MultiCSC file of my region along with other 2 files of XXJVU but not with XXJVU-OXA-CSC file provided?

I know CFroot-XXJVU kernel is available to root so thats not a problem, yes I also know ROM manager & flashing CWM recovery with it.

@ Tufftoad
I was talking about the same XXJVU-OXA firmware (odexed).
I also dont care much for backup (actually dont have many things to backup except contacts n music) as long new version is working fine.
So 3- is optional (lol) but do read it properly this time plz.

1) Should be part of the firmware.
2) Yes it is, You just need ROM Manager to install it or as Tufftoad said, use Chainfires (I think) CFRoot, which has CWM built in.
3) As far as I know or remember No.
4) I think you can flash a different CSC file, but I'll wait for more ok replys before trying. Just encase.

You won't know if it's going to work properly till you've flashed. I've only ever made the one backup when I first started flashing, don't know why:confused::)

You will need to make a backup of you EFS folder though. A few apps can do this or use a Root file explorer and copy/paste the file to your SD card, I'd also make a copy of that onto your computer too.
