hello everyone hows things good i hope
tomorrow i have to choose a new phone,so far it was the desire, however i have seen the galaxy s and i think its the dogs,
but i still have a few issues, when i get the galaxy it will have android 2.1 but its will also have the touchwizz 3.0 over it,

to remove this i can root the phone or apply a different f/w to it,via my pc or the phone it self theres 2 methods i think
now if i apply a new f/w or custom one, will the phone still play divx,xvid,x264 like it did staright out of the box or thisis just comfined to touchwizz

if not whats the best new f/w or custom one

can the phone play content on youtube, bbc iplayer channel 4,or any other tv websites, over wifi smoothly or do i have to wait for the frodro update i think thats right

i have been reading a bit about the phone the way itplays games, movies but i thought i would ask the people that matter the owners, yourselfs and people who will give it straight

as i say i have to choose a new phone on tmobile so its the desire or galaxy s i really want it but just thought i would ask as every phone iv had from ngage n85,to lg cookie,lg renoir,lg arena and loads other in between have let me down in some way the biggest being the lg arena lol what a rubbish phone

thank you

Just my 2ps worth and not really answering your questions sorry but ..... I'm about to contact Samsung and ask for a repair on my device even though there's nothing physically wrong with it. My problem is speed and stability ! I've had the Galaxy S for what must be around 2 weeks now and am getting increasingly peed off.

I've caught it rebooting itself at least 4 times when it was just sitting on the desk ! I guess that's an OS crash of some sort. I've had to remove the battery twice cause I could do anything once the device was unlocked.

But worse of all is the slow downs on it. I had to wait 46seconds the other day for it to catchup to simply pause a song playing through Spotify. Sometimes when a phone call comes in I can't answer it because of the screen lag. Exchange email is a 6 second a press delay.

My conclusion is that Android is still fairly beta and or there's something wrong with the samsung hardware.

If touchwizz is the only reason, you don't really need to root or apply f/w. You can download 3rd party "Launcher" and it will replace the tounchwizz.

As far as I know, apply f/w will not affect the support of video codec. Youtube is working, BBC Iplayer only support Froyo at the moment, so will need to wait for the next SGS Froyo update or apply a froyo custom when it is available.

The only problem Ive got with SGS is the GPS. Desire seems to have a better signal and more reliable GPS signal than SGS, it might change in the future firmware update. If GPS not a problem for you, there is no reason to go for Desire as SGS is definitely a better phone than Desire in every way :)

the Galaxy S has better specs in every way as far as i see, and the battery is larger too. i think youll really like the Super AMOLED screen and nice camera.. so i say go with the Galaxy S, but then again what do you expect asking a question like that on samsunggalaxysforums lol..

@LPC I think the slow down issue is due to there are programs still running at the background. It takes me a while to learn that in order to close an application in Andorid properly, you have to either use the "Exit/ Close" menu in the program or use the "Back" button. If you press "home" button, it will only hide the program at the background. Once these unclose applications used up the memory, you will start experience phone lag, crash, screen froze....etc.

Another way to fix this is to use Advanced Task Killer to manage the un-close program or have it set to auto kill (don't go crazy on this as it might try to close the program while you are using) so it will start killing off the opened apps when the memory is getting low.

Since I start using Advanced Task Killer, my phone never lag or crash once.
