Evening folks. Recently I bought SGS via vip.mobile provider here in Serbia and I am still waiting for Froyo via official Samsung software, Kies. Going mental, provider offers me sending phone to service which is taking up to two weeks for installing 2.2, no way sorry. Was thinking about reg hack thingie and such but dont have recovery/download option so I decided to sit and wait for Kies. Is there any rumor when will Kies catch Froyo for those crappy countries such mine?

details are: PDA XFJM6 PHONE XXJM1 CSC XFJJM3

Can you guys give me some advice what to do, sit and wait for Kies, try to enable rec/dl mode(friend of mine bricked his SGS trying to do it), reg hack kies, odin or ... ? Is it safe to upgrade via Kies official while my recovery/dl mode is not working?

Thanks many many in advance, and sorry if this post is spam :)

I'd be wary of doing anything at all if your recovery mode doesn't work. Even Kies itself advises using recovery mode if something goes wrong with the flash - it even shows you how - but obviously it won't know that yours is disabled.

Hi, I am from Croatia, also on VIP, did not know u have VIP there is Serbia...

My sugestion is to acept offer from provider, and send it to service for upgrade..

Reason, I have middled with my SGS, trying kies, odin, etc.. and in the end, I bricked it.. ****Totaly BRICKED**** It wont wont boot, it wont power up, compleatly DEAD.
So I sent it for reapir, and I am waiting to see If i will need to pay repair...

So my opinion is, it is safer to be without phone for two weeks, and use sabstitute phone, whitch I belive u would get no extra charge, than do it yourself, and risk bricking it and loosing waranty.

Cheers,

well, day when I bought sgs I installed Kies and it offered me to upgrade my stock software, was fine even I wasn't aware of things such recover/download modes, bricking and such. guess I was lucky with flashing. anyway the day samsung hit 2.2 on Kies in my country I will accept upgrade without any hesitation hoping it will flash my sgs like it should all with working froyo+recovery/dl mode.

Today when I turned my Kies it showed me that I can upgrade my SGS to Froyo finally. Great news. Turned in and started upgrade, everything went smooth, since PDA XFJM6 PHONE XXJM1 CSC XFJJM3 flashed to PDA XFJP7 PHONE XXJPP CSC XFJP3 build info: 2010. 10

what I noticed so far, recovery and download mode still not working, should I be worried about this?, since I might never have to use it. Doing factory reset in settings from time to time.
Goots, what you think about those versions of Froyo's PDA/PHONE parameters, since I have no clue wich one are latest. Have fun guys, Froyo so far working great here, smoothness all around :)

Yeah they look good, branded firmware obviously, but if it's not too intrusive it's fine :)

As for the Download/Recovery Mode, Samsung should really include the fix for this within the official updates imho. There is a chance you will never need it, but come the one time that you do.... trouble :(

Many people have chosen to manually fix this problem, but there have also been a number of bricks reported. Personally, I would take the chance, but that's just me :)
