Is there a setting somewhere that will allow me to do what I want with my phone if it has a low battery?
Why Samsung feels the need to tell me I cant use the camera, or watch a film or listen to music if the battery is low is beyond me.

As far as I know, there isn't a way to change that.

I think the reason behind this is to avoid the memory card damage that can cause by power off while reading and writing to memory. Samsung just trying to play the safe bet so they don't have to deal with the potential complains. As you can see, most 3rd party won't have this limit as they don't need to take responsible for that reason.

Well its not much as Apple do the same, when the battery is low. Also tell you can't, transfer files over bluetooth, video calls over 3G (only wifi) and real multitasking etc etc. But Tiptronic is right Samsung do this as a safe guard against the battery cutting out when you take a photo causing a read error and maybe corrupting your memory card.

if you want tho, you could download a camera app from the market, ones downloaded will work untill the battery dies, its just the built in one that stops working.
btw if you happen to find a good camera app please share it cause ive been looking for one too

Try Camera 360, great app, with some great modes, especially the Tilt/Shift mode.
