Hi friends,
I have a question in order to figured it out if my new I9000 Galaxy S has a little problem or it is a factory default behavior.

It is related to plastic frame(margin).

If I start to squeeze it a little symmetrically from the top to bottom on both left and right parts it feels very solid all the way down until I rich the last 1/4 from the vertical parts where pushing a little the frame seems to click(I can hear it) at the same height on both parts for a short distance. Continuing going down feels solid again.
I squeeze it from up to down not from lateral.
Due to the fact that is identically symmetrically I wonder it if is normal or not. Have any of you noticed that ?

I hope I was more or less clear in my explanation.
Thanks for helping me !

I'm, pressing with the big finger on the metal frame( I think is a plastic frame) and the point finger it's stays on the back cover. Indeed In that short space where I hear a small click I can not tell if is from the back cover or the frame.

take off the battery cover, and try pressing it, see if you still hear the click

I still hear it - so it's the frame - but only in the lower 3th part and on the same Y axis level on left and right parts. Is not big click I mean I barley hear it and is not annoying but I'm wondering what's about it.

assuming you or whoever sold you your phone never dropped it, its most likely something glued or screwed together wrong, or possibly a defective frame. if its really a big problem for you, you could send it back for a new one, or try taking it apart yourself and checking out what the problem is, if its a loose screw or something it shouldnt be too hard to fix.

I hear some squeaks too, but it is plastic, so it will squeak anyways if you squeeze the phone.. Samsung Jet has the same back cover, and it clicks, too.

I think I was not 100% clear related to the squeeze term. Is more like a tapp on the frame that sorrounding the screen, with both fingers as I said before. So is not a real big click sound... is like a feeling that the frame covers a microspace between the frame and the screen but nothing visible, just I fill it sometimes when I tapp the frame above the "back" and "settings" buttons. Anyway I think I become paranoid :)

:) Damn, I caught some of your paranoia. Sitting, squeezing and tapping the phone around. Seems that it's fine, but sometimes I think I feel it clicks. But I'm not entirely sure.

I get the same thing about 2/3 of the way down when running my fingers down the metallic looking surround. I've decided to stop fondling my phone like that :-)

Hi there !
I went today to the central store to test what I hear on other SGS phones. I tested on 8 models. They are all the same. Every one has a small zone where tapping you fill like a small hole(extreemly small hole). So, I have the proof that is quite natural and every phone Galaxy S has it. And absolutly is NOT disturbing. In this way I made peace with my new phone and with me and I advice to do the same for you. Every phone is perfect in it's way and if you hear something when u touch it seems the phone reveals and speak to you. He's your new buddy. So, trust him and let's have a long life togheter. ;)

I would call it a creak rather than a click on my phone. I grabbed my Iphone 3G and it did the same thing - same noise.

Yhea, I just got my phone 3 days ago. Noticed the same thing, the click noise comes from the middle part on both sides. Seems like its getting a bit looser the latest day.

Hopefully it doesn't get worse. I'l try tweaking some with the screws, a clicking frame wont get you a new phone, at least not in Sweden that is.

And I should mention that my friend and I bought the same model, at the same day, he's galaxy is solid, all around.

Alright!
The result from my little surgery:

If you remove your battery hatch, you will notice seven screws. The two once in the middle on both long sides.
They are causing inner tension, this results in a gap between the frame and the phone.
Loosening these screws just a little will releases the tension and the gap closes. I now don't have any trouble with it.

Hopefully this will resolve this issue. Just get your self a small Phillips screwdriver and get back to me.

thanks for tip. Did this with my phone as it had a very audible creak/clicking which was driving me insane. loosened the screws by half a turn and problem solved. Well chuffed

Sorry to resurrect this old thread - but just wanted to confirm I *Also* get this squeeky/creaky noise in the exact same places on the metal looking plastic surrounding trim on the front of the phone! The "worst" part is the right hand side about 3/4s of the way down, approximately an inch from the bottom of the handset. Running my finger along the trim it feels solidly in place up until this point, then feels solid again. At first I thought this may have been mine only and was also gonna go out and test some others LOL. Googled this thinking nothing would show up - but seems like it's normal! May give the screws a go. Very relieved! Thanks to all who posted.
